It certainly would not help the team with the suspended player. I'm not sure how it would help the conference? That would be like saying it would help the conference if a player on one team was injured and missed five games during the conference season. I agree the tit might help UNI to beat Drake if we are without our best player, but I don't see how that helps the whole conference.

Really? The effect might be small, but it clearly would be the case. I said IF a game suspension is given, then it helps the conference if the penalty is applied to conference games.
I am assuming that the team would be better with the player than without. That generally should be true (I can think of at least one exception, but let’s assume it’s true.
Every team in the conference benefits when every other MVC team does well in the OOC schedule. But once conference season starts, it doesn’t matter to me (as a UNI fan) if Drake wins or MSU wins.

Btw, I’m not arguing that there should be any games suspended for Tremell.
Go Panthers!!

The verdict is in: five-game suspension.

This is a curious statement.

I’m pretty sure the “it” in this quote is him being back with the team, not the incident. Just saying that Tremell being back with the team is good for his psyche, or whatever.

Jesus if this is true, then that's just despicable. Again, if this is true, then that coach needs to be fired and the school deserves to be sued and possibly face NCAA sanctions.

I thought it was bad enough that this incident was essentially swept under the rug with a light suspension. The addition of a coach being involved in lying to the authorities makes this so much worse. We'll have to see what happens as this continues to play out in court

This is absurd. This was an accidental injury. The only issue is whether the player was negligent in the handling of the gun causing it to fire. That seems pretty likely. Nothing anybody did or said after the fact is of any relevance. The coach has denied the allegations. With all of the intentional cheating going on in college sports you want NCAA sanctions for an accidental injury? It would be nice if everything in the world could work perfectly, but things happen in real time. I don't know what is meant by "swept under the rug." He pled guilty to the only crimes he could have been charged with. More than would have been charged if he had not been a Drake basketball player.

Hopefully no Valpo player ever gets in an auto accident that injures someone. If so I assume you would propose that the Valpo basketball program be shut down.

Drakey, I think you're being very defensive. How you can say that nothing that happened in the aftermath has any relevance is just plain silly. Anything that delayed the kid getting immediate medical care , especially if he now has permanent damage is indeed relevant. Now, obviously there needs to be proof of that, but I'd hardly take a coach saying he had no role as proof , just as the accuser saying he did isn't proof either.

I'm not promoting that Drake is guilty of anything, but the fact that Murphy already admitted that he originally falsely reported the accident certainly begs the question if he had any input from someone prior to that. Murphy has already paid the price legally, but that won't protect him from being sued for damages, and obviously if there proves to have been initial input by a coach, that opens up a whole nother can of worms.
Wouldn't seem to be an NCAA issue, but certainly could be one that cost somebody big $$$$$.
