Great, then you can go back to talking about your D1 football and OVC basketball. You know, the stuff that matters.

FIFY ^ Also here's a link that you can read. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Divi ... ampionship

OVC basketball had 2 bids and both of them won tournament games. The MVFC has a school that gets more media exposure than any MVC basketball school. Loyola did get a lot of media exposure for a while because of their F4 run, but their time in the spotlight is over.

MVC basketball was a one bid league that was a 15 seed. Had UNI not blown their huge lead we would have been a 1 bid league, playing as a 16 seed in Dayton. Last season we only had a team in the tournament because of an automatic bid, so I stand by what I said. No one would have made it without it or even been in the discussion. Meanwhile both Belmont and Murray State were in the at-large discussion at the end of the season.

Maybe we could be a 2 bid league this season, and I hope we are, but based on what has happened so far that doesn't look very likely.

Your moniker is kind of a strange choice. You don't really seem like an MVC FAN. I understand criticizing a team you support, hoping they will make some changes and get better, but criticizing an entire conference ould not possibly achieve anything other than to show you are NOT a fan of the conference. That is fine, but why would you waste your time posting on a message board for a conference you don't like? I kind of like to publicize conference success and downplay conference failures.

He was on the Western Illinois board ways back talking them into pairing with ISU in a move to the OVC.

I want to be in a conference that prioritizes both football and basketball. If that means ISU (blue) joining the OVC or creating an all sports MVFC then that is my preference. Playing with private schools does nothing to excite me.

Between football, basketball, and baseball we play 16 different opponents (17 next year) not including ourselves. Of those 16 we only play 9 of those in only sport (10 next year). Out of all 16 we only play 3 in all three sports. The MVC is a mess and I want common opponents that play the same sports as us. The OVC or an all-sports MVFC wouldn't be perfect but it would be way better than what we are in right now.

If we joined the OVC (by ourselves) we'd play 9 opponents in all 3 sports and all 12 in at least two sports. In an all sports MVFC (minus YSU) we'd play 8 opponents in all three sports and all 10 in at least two sports.

BTW I generally like all of the schools in the MVC and want to see them all do well. I'm just pretty honest with my views and I get that some may want me to sugarcoat stuff but I just call it how I see it. I'm the same way on the ISU board when discussing Sycamore athletics. I just try to keep things real and unbiased as best I can.

Cool. For all intents and purposes FBS : basketball D1 :: FCS : basketball D2. Which isn't to say they can't pull some upsets here and there with fewer scholarships. NDSU is the only one with national recognition and that's because they won 6 of 7 national titles or something ridiculous.

Last year was an aberration. In 2018, the MVC was 8th in the RPI and the OVC was 18th. Over the last several decades, that's more the norm.

If you'd rather play WIU and Youngstown St in basketball than Loyola or Bradley, great. You'd probably win more. But if you did win that tourney you're more likely to end up a 16 in Dayton which you're bemoaning.

Or maybe, to be picky, FBS : P5-basketball :: FCS : MM-basketball is more accurate. Although we could each provide exceptions that weaken the other's comparison.

It will nearly always an upset for a MM to beat any P5. Or it should be, based on $$, facilities, and prestige.

All it takes for the league to be 2 bids is for 1 team to be good enough for an at large bid, and then have another team win the conference tournament. That was what happened a lot of years in the mid 2000's was that our league champ was good enough for an at large bid, and then they NEVER won the tournament in St. Louis.

Let's just hope a couple of teams get their act together here and build a resume early. Honestly, let's have everyone win the games they are supposed to win, and the conference will be fine.
