This is another thing I love about the MVC: way more games on TV and the media coverage and fan engagement are top notch. I've seen life in three different conferences as a Valpo fan (I grew up in the area too) and it's never been anything like this. Just amazing and awesome!

Which is more surprising:
UNI is 5-1 with their only loss to Illinois State
Illinois State is 1-5 with their only win over UNI

Discuss.

I'll take Illinois State, only because in the offseason I read a few times that the Redbird practice squad would regularly beat or hang with last year's team; that led me (and I think others) to believe that Illinois State would just be reloading.

Illinois St. Not a fan of them or Muller in recent years but they've had the talent to overcome some of his shortcomings as a coach. Thought that they'd still have enough in the cupboard to be at least middle of the pack.

Rule of thumb: if the current year starts with a number, then UNI is likely to lose the MVC road opener.

Last year UNI won the road opener at Bradley...their previous win before that...2009 against Creighton (the Sweet 16, "Down Goes Kansas!" season). So in the last decade UNI is 1-9 in MVC road opener's. Even a 15 pt+ halftime lead over a bottom team in't enough to overcome one of nature's laws.
[Insert snappy comeback]

Hope Loyola and UNI are ready today... Their games have trap game written all over them ahead of their upcoming meeting. As I've said before Carbondale has not been a fun place to be a road team (ask Valpo and Drake both of whom got soundly beaten down there). And Indiana State is a good team who can surprise you especially if you're sleeping on them. Being at home should help Loyola though.

If Loyola can't beat the Trees at home then Sunday's showdown is not really a showdown after all. Their best win is @Valpo. They have had the easiest start to Valley play in the league.

I honestly think UNI is the only team without something to prove at this point. That said I've been really happy with the Ramblers improvement since the start of the season. Completely different team since Clemons came back.

Watching Loyola tonight makes you really wonder what could have been with them had they started out healthy... They might have been an at large contender...

Loyola lives up to its end of the bargain as it continues its dominant defensive run in conference holding Indiana State to 55 points.

Now it is UNI's turn to set up Sunday's showdown.
