I have to admit, at St. Louis one of my favorite things is to watch the UNI people dance. Forget basketball, they can dance. Maybe it is the water from the Cedar River, or Hamm's beer, but they can dance.

To me it's pretty simple; every fan base has the right to brag and extol the virtues of their program and University. That obviously increases during periods when they are having success. That's what bragging rights are all about. But when that pride in one's own leads to taking shots at other schools, then it usually leads to a trashy board . We've been able to avoid that for the last couple years sans a few minor skirmishes. Once it goes there, it's hard to get back a level of civility ; I know how I am , I try to stay nice until it becomes time not be nice. Then I'll roll in the dirt with anyone taking shots at my University, team, fan base etc. We all have to decide what the nature of the board will be, but I know how bad it was just 3-4 years ago, and would hate to see it go that way again.

I agree with this. I love SIU but I also really love the valley schools. Out of conference I feel a connection to all of them, I follow them all so closely. I like the coaches, I like the players, I like the teams... In fact I root for them. I never take shots at the other schools, we are kind of all on the same side.

I am with you, lets keep it civil and move on.

The Redbirds have certainly had plenty of opportunities to bring fans down on Sundays. :D

Illinois State tends to bring pretty good crowds, even last year when they played Thursday I was surprised by the turnout. I've heard the Birds will still have a solid contingent in what has been this miserable of a season.

First time in 10 years I'm not making the trip. Have a great time to those who go. It's by far one of my favorite weekends of the year.

I'm loving the chippy-ness that's going on here. It's what makes this conference great. At the end of the day, everyone is going to be rooting for whoever represents the league in the NCAA Tournament....Except Bradley...I'd hope they get destroyed by 40 in the first round. 8-)

Becoming Shocker-like

Lately, several UNI fans here have been accused of becoming like WSU fans. As a UNI fan, I want to report that we are nice people and not at all like... nm-

What exactly is the proper way to lead the league and behave on a message board, then? We had a close game against NET10 West Virginia, and wins against NET17 Colorado and NET66 South Carolina. We certainly come into conference season with higher hopes that what played out. This has genuinely (and I think reasonably) resulted in a feeling that we lost games that we should have won. I'm thinking of SIU and ISUr especially.

I think that is what comes across as Shocker-ish. The feeling that we are the best and we should win.

But maybe it's tough to win on the road against teams that know your style. And I think the style of offense that certain teams in the MVC employ works well against our defense. the '15-'16 team had wins against UNC and IowaSt (both ranked), but started MVC play 2-6.

Last year, we nearly made it to the Dance. But Bradley mounted an epic comeback in the title game. So I became a Bradley fan for about two weeks. Too bad - stinkin' Izzo!

All the posters on this board seem to have a mutual respect and appreciation for the valley except for some of you UNI fans these days who have turned into Wichita. Now you think that you are better than everyone else. In the past month alone different UNI fans have came after me with garbage attitudes picking fights when there was not one to start with... Sounds like a lot like a Shocker thing to do. I guess when one bully moves away though it gives another the opportunity to step up.

I've been over the top complimentary of Mullins. I have no earthly idea what you're so upset about. I made one really weak smack talk comment about one game and all of a sudden I'm Wichita.

I certainly don't think we're better as a fan base than everyone else but it sure as hell seems as though our team is better than everybody else this year...

It's not about one comment or just you. I think the nail was hit on the head earlier in this thread. UNI fans have come across on here as if losing to other MVC schools is out of the realm of possibility. Always somebody else's fault. I have seen comments such as there is no way we should be losing to this terrible SIU team etc... Then I have seen replies to other comments in other threads and there are multiple UNI fans who have all the sudden become all knowing, spewing what they seem to think are facts inaccurately and doing it in a way to bring down the person they're talking to. I have made this comment about 5 times this year, the fans on this board are starting to feel like WSU fans did at the end of their time in the MVC.

It's all good, though. Maybe I was bitter about blowing a 10 point lead to share the conference lead and overreacted. Let's drop it and enjoy the last week and Arch Madness. :buddies:

They'd still have at least 2 wins and both of them would be against Evansville.

2-16 is almost as bad as 0-18. Sure as hell nothing to be proud of.

Why are we still doing this? SIU did in fact lose their best player to injury along with their back up big man. lol

I guess we will have to take your word for that. There is no stat that proves it.
