To be honest, I did* feel that way when we lost to SIU. But I don't think that qualifies as WSU-ishness. Objectively it just is a game we shouldn't have lost, based on out of conf performance. I would bet that if I went to the Saluki-Insider thread about our first game, most Saluki fans expected UNI to win also.

*Note I said "did." We have commented as the conf season has gone on that SUI is trending upward and it doesn't seem to be as bad of a loss as it initially did.

Hear Hear. And I am hopeful for next year. There are a bunch of MVC teams that return enough that we should have a really good out of conf season.

In fairness, there are one or two UNI fans that do make it incredibly hard to root for them. With that said, I see that one of ours is smacking on SIU this year. We shouldn't be smacking on anything right now, and I am more than a little impressed with what Mullins has done this year. Good for the Salukis. I hope he gets COY.

For the most part, I never really minded the Shocker posters. Some of the garbage was certainly way over the top. Like it or not, they had put themselves into a position of seriously outspending the rest of the conference. I actually had more than one positive exchange even with Baller, or whatever his name was that particular day.

No question UNI has been the most consistent program the last decade. Jacobson gets more out of what he can recruit than anyone in the league..No question. In fact, I have posted several times on our board that this years UNI team reminds me a lot of the Crews era teams here. Tough ass defense, a tree in the middle, and a couple of snipers. AJ has a lot of similarities with Scott Haffner. The truth is, unlike Wichita, UNI isn't doing anything or capable of anything that just about anyone else in the conference can't as well. They made a damn good hire with Jacobson and have developed a stable, winning culture with it.

I have two concerns as a conference for long term at this point...The facilities at Valpo, and the basketball budget at Indiana State. Other than that, the playing field is about as even as any conference in the country.

If UNI fans were WSU fans this is what MVCFans would look like:

- There would be 10 pages griping about officiating, flopping, & how they’re everyone’s Super Bowl. Bonus: a conspiracy the host team denied them their morning practice.

- Throw in 5 more pages exclaiming how their program is the country’s sleeping giant but is handicapped by a league where no one “tries”.

- A dozen “EU”, “NIU”, “D+”, & “LOLoyola” references as they quote each other with laughing emoticons like these were the funniest little jokes they ever heard.

- Approximately 18 mentions of charter flights.

- A financial breakdown of the coach’s salary and how - here’s a secret - less than 5% of it is funded by a billionaire.

- Finally, “PantherFever/UNIbballer” would retreat to PantherNation to post a twitter picture of an ISUr poster and his wife, and degrade her looks where no one will bat an eyelash.

This is so accurate that it literally hurts. The only thing you missed was bagging on every single other Valley city while not realizing the irony when you live in Wichita/Cedar Falls.

Aren't we at the point where everybody (except maybe Indiana State charters)? I know UNI flys everywhere except Des Moines (also bus to Peoria or Normal if its a weekend game or during break). Isn't this now an outdated talking point that they would replace with Gregggggg talking about how he can't find a good steak?

PS--He's the first guy ever that can't find a good steak in Iowa but apparently can in Greenville, NC....

It's all good, though. Maybe I was bitter about blowing a 10 point lead to share the conference lead and overreacted. Let's drop it and enjoy the last week and Arch Madness. :buddies:

Don't worry about it. UNI fans aren't in the same league as the Shuckers. Back in the day of ValleyTalk, they hated SIU. I just let 'em talk. They weren't even a factor at Arch Madness until their last few years in the Valley. Even the year they ran away with the regular season title in 2006, Bradley beat them on Saturday.

One particular Shucker, c0lDbLo0Ded, was particularly nasty. Wish I still had the pic of that foo from Hooters. (Actually, I know who has it, but since he and his pals think I'm the wrath of God, I can't get it).

I'll own that one. I mean our four losses are an OT where AJ got his face broken and the other three were by a combined 11 points. 17-1 was ambitious but its not like we're going to finish 7-11.

I think the lesson from this season overall is that The Valley is on its way back. If the Mountain West weren't being propped up by San Diego State and the WCC weren't having an historic season, we'd be 9th in conference NET which is as well as we've done since realignment. The early returns of Southern being on their way back to being Southern is AWESOME for the league and eight of our teams have some real forward momentum right now.

Recruiting classes look really good across the board next year. All 10 coaches should be back. Everybody is investing in facilities and travel for the most part. Our all league teams are going to be full of Sophomores and Juniors. Legitimate chance that next year we can put 3 or 4 teams in the Top 75 so that there are more Quad 1 opportunities on the road and Quad 2 games that we can play at home within the league schedule which is great to get teams into the NCAA and NIT.

It's REALLY exciting right now!
