I can get on board with this. They have a fantastic basketball program! I say bring em in!

I ordinarily would never advocate for a program to be removed from D1 but when a money saving gambit so thinly veiled as this causes you to cancel conference games maybe it's time to evaluate your university's priorities and consider the role D1 athletics plays within those priorities. UMKC is canceling their trip too but it doesn't really matter to them because they're gone anyway to the Summit League. Unfortunately Chicago State has nowhere to go but the WAC, but they are no doubt spending a fortune on travel and aren't competitive. Is it really worth it to stay D1? Does the WAC even still need them with Dixie State and Tarleton State coming in (Maybe so since CSU-Bakersfield and UMKC are both leaving but maybe they could take another school like Augustana that wants to move up since the Summit League seems reluctant to take them? Of course there's a question of whether that would even be any better but at least most WAC schools probably save a little on travel costs for whatever losing Chicago as a recruiting area costs them. If I were the WAC Commissioner I would bar both Chicago State and UMKC from the tournament to be honest and give the top two seeds byes this year. If you won't travel to Seattle and Utah for games then why should you be allowed to go to Las Vegas? Any time you go to an airport or any major city you're putting yourself at risk for the virus so this excuse doesn't hold water to me and is as I said a means of saving a few dollars. I don't think the WAC should or will be contracted but if it were to be I hope all the schools find good new homes. I'd be surprised if the MVC added NMSU or if NMSU would even want to be in the MVC given the travel issues and the financial burden that would entail. How would we solve the travel issue? Take GCU too? Add Oral Roberts as a bridge? Stephen F. Austin? And where does that leave us with Murray State? If we're going to expand they should absolutely be a part of any expansion plan.

NCAA just announced spectators are barred from D3 Tourney games at Johns Hopkins this weekend. This is creeping closer and closer to the NCAA Tournament and D1 conference tournaments.

The situation in Seattle is worse than anywhere else in the US with the infection spreading at an XFL game.

Personally based off everything I've seen I think there is too much panic and generally speaking response to coronavirus has been an overreaction. This is being treated as a if you get it there's a 50/50 chance you drop dead when in actuality it's not anywhere close to that.

My opinion: There's too much money invoked in conference tournaments and the NCAA D1 Tournament. They won't get cancelled. D3 games at a medical school barely break even/aren't so much a profit concern.

You can add an MLB team to that list, the Mariners, once their season starts. The governor of Washington is expected tomorrow to order gatherings of 250 or more people cancelled until further notice for a portion of the state including Seattle. Washington has roughly 1/4 of the total known COVID-19 infections in the USA.

The governor of Ohio made similar noises today, asking (but not ordering) that large events including sporting events in Ohio be postponed or played without fans. This of course could impact the First Four in Dayton and an NCAA regional slated for Cleveland.

Golden State Warriors join SJ Sharks and Seattle Mariners in empty venues.

Ohio Governor revises request into a mandate to disallow spectators for the NCAA in Dayton and Cleveland.

Houston Mayor canceling mass gathering events which includes the NCAA South Regional.

This post did not age well at all. When all of this started canceling games I thought it was a massive overreaction and that this would all be over in a few days. Little did I know the gravity of this and the public safety concern that it is. I am sorry and I feel like a major jerk for typing this. Chicago State did the right thing.

MAC and Big West will be played without fans

CBI is canceled

As of now the MVC Women's Tournament is the only tournament still allowing fan attendance. The Big East just became the last men's tournament to not allow fan attendance.

MVC needs to follow suit here. Illinois has been pretty hard hit I understand.
