Back when Arch madness started in the Kiel, Arena, and then the new Kiel, MSU, SIU, ISUR, and BU were the only crowds. Drake, Tulsa, CU, and WSU were awful and didn't even bring a band usually. The Trees would generate a decent crowd on good years. Quite noticeable how things have changed.

In those days UE, UNI, LU, and VU weren't in the league.

TV ratings in. On a positive note the MVC beat out the Mountain West and WCC finals.

"CBS ended its 2019-20 college basketball run on a solid note in the ratings.

CBS averaged a 1.3 rating and 2.05 million viewers for last Sunday’s Ohio State-Michigan State men’s college basketball game, its final telecast of the truncated season — up a tick in ratings and 13% in viewership from last year (Wisconsin-Ohio State: 1.2, 1.82M).

The Spartans’ win finished as the tenth-most watched game of the season. Play ended abruptly Thursday with the cancellation of all conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament.

Earlier in the day, CBS averaged a 0.8 (flat) and 1.20 million (-6%) for the Valparaiso-Bradley Missouri Valley championship and a 0.7 (-19%) and 1.02 million (-21%) for Memphis-Houston. On Saturday, it averaged a 1.0 (+21%) and 1.55 million (+29%) for Kentucky-Florida, a 0.8 (-14%) and 1.07 million (-19%) for the Utah State-San Diego State Mountain West final, and a 0.7 (-46%) and 1.06 million (-49%) for UCLA-USC.

Elsewhere last weekend, FOX averaged a 0.9 (+90%) and 1.36 million (+100%) for Michigan-Maryland on Sunday, its second-most watched game of the season behind St. John’s-Xavier after an NFL playoff game in January (2.30M).

Big Ten Network averaged 646,000 for Illinois-Iowa on Sunday evening, its second-largest regular season audience ever, behind Minnesota-Wisconsin a week earlier (693K). BTN finished the season averaging 224,000 viewers (+12%).

As previously noted, ESPN topped last week’s college hoops charts with a 1.4 and 2.23 million for Duke-North Carolina.

Shifting to the workweek, Tuesday’s Gonzaga-Saint Mary’s WCC Tournament final averaged a 0.6 (-8%) and 924,000 (-8%). The final college basketball game on ESPN networks this season, Wednesday’s North Carolina-Syracuse ACC Tournament game on ESPN2, averaged a 0.6 (+36%) and 950,000 (+44%).

In what turned out to be the final college basketball telecast on Nielsen-rated TV this year, the first half of Thursday’s St. John’s-Creighton Big East Tournament quarterfinal averaged 174,000 viewers on FS1."

Yep, and the first Arch madness was before then. When UNI first joined, they were like the weaker elements not bringing any fans, band, pep squad, etc. Evansville was probably the strongest when they first joined and have dropped off gradually.

It started in St. Louis in the 1990-91 season, so Northern Iowa only missed the first year. The Tournament has always drawn the most fans from the teams that finished at, or near the top in the standings. In the 90’s it was Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Bradley, and Southeast Missouri State a lot.

Had an argument the other day- does Bradley get to post on their official records that they were a 2020 NCAA tournament participant?

I would think you state that Bradley "Qualified" for the NCAA tournament in 2020. Or if you want you put an asterisk by that year, as they were one of like 8 teams in when everything got cancelled.

I don't think so. I think you can say things like we "would have played in back to back tournaments" but as far as official records go, you can't really participate in something that didn't happen.
