I agree culture is a total buzzword for most, but Mullins learned most of his coaching techniques from Moser (like it or not), and creating a solid culture is the core tenant of that philosophy.
Both are looking for high character/effort guys, who play defense, and ultimately are most concerned with winning. I remember hearing on an SIU broadcast that he was targeting kids that won state championships in high school... That’s been a major piece of Moser’s recruiting philosophy since we entered the valley; and looks to be for Mullins as well.
I also think, as a fan on the outside it’s hard to identify a teams culture. We’re not in the locker rooms or practice. I think one thing I can say about Barry is his team never really had a culture (maybe identity is a better word here) on the court. Were they focused on offense? Defense? Out muscling teams for rebounds? Pushing the pace? I really couldn’t say.
