UNI adds Transfer Goanar Mar

Postby BCPanther » April 15th, 2020, 1:09 pm

UNI announced the signing of George Mason transfer 6-7 210 G/F Goanar Mar, originally from Minneapolis (DeLaSalle).

Started every game as a freshman at Mason but dealt with foot injuries the last two years which limited him to 19 games his sophomore year. Averaged 10 & 5 while playing 32 mpg at Mason as a freshman.

Has petitioned to get a year back, doesn't seem likely to me. Believed to be a grad transfer but nobody seems to be able to confirm that.

Was a consensus 3 star and had offers from Butler, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Iowa State and Xavier out of high school. UNI has had pretty good luck with this type of transfer in the past.

UPDATE: He plans to sit one-play one.

Will be a good player to help out for Green and Phyfe's senior year and as Bowen Born matures. UNI looks positioned to be pretty good for awhile.

Those must have been some bad injuries. His production tanked since his freshman season. Will be a role player Im sure or Jake. Not a slight. Not every recruit can be an all league guy.

Foot injuries can be (and often are) very nasty and are tough to recover from. But situational shooting off the bench is something you can never have enough of so even if that's all he is it's a good pickup for UNI and their needs. The less dependent upon A.J. Green's scoring to save them the better for them and for the league at large.

Totally agree. He's here to be the perimeter length on defense that we're going to lose with Pickford and Berhow after next year. Going to be a need because Noah Carter doesn't project as anything other than an average defender and Tytan Anderson is going to be a little bit of a project on offense.

Ty Pickford is a good example of this. Had a great freshman year for the Panthers but soph year was a complete waste due to his foot/ankle injury. Showed some flashes this year of his old self but unfortunately didn't completely recapture his production (or playing time).
[Insert snappy comeback]
