I kind of doubt his plan was to have to pick up a pair of d-2 kids and a lightly regarded Canadian late in the spring just to fill a roster. Now that don't mean he can't field a competitive squad with this roster, cause I think he's a solid coach. But let's not make it out like this was the master plan. Recruiting is always a fluid process, but don't try to make out like these were his prime targets when he looked at his board last fall and thought about his 2020-2021 team.
Not a very sharp post. SIU has won more than its share of recruiting battles this spring (got Verplancken over Loyola, Muila over Missouri State, D'Avanzo over Drake+DePaul, etc.). And we'll see what they do with the two remaining rides.
As for the DII angle, worked out pretty well for Loyola with Tate Hall last year. As the power conferences increasingly poach midmajor talent, midmajors recruiting top DII players seems to be part of the new recruiting landscape. I don't love all the transferring by any stretch, but DIIs transferring up seems to be an emerging trend.
