Honestly, that is surprising. I would really think he would have been shooting higher than that.

With the NCAA stating that waivers will be considered with COVID-19 in mind, JFL is back in Chicago and near his family. I am pretty sure he even made reference to being closer to his Grandmother in one anouncement I read. He will also be playing in the Big East Conference.

The waiver process is a joke, no rhyme or reason to who gets them or why. Valpo is less than an hr [52 miles] from Chicago, takes that long to drive across town . If they're just gonna grant waivers to everyone, then they should have just passed the new rule, but watch, there will be some real head scratchers about who gets a waiver and who doesn't. My favorite one was 2 years ago when Dru Smith and Mark Smith both transferred to MU after both completing full seasons of play at Evansville and Illinois respectively. Dru Smith even had the additional criteria of his coach, Simmons, being fired, but Mark Smith was granted a waiver and Dru wasn't.

Valpo has found their replacement for JFL. Supposedly he's immediately eligible for three seasons. Played at JUCO this past year and averaged 12.0ppg. Sheldon Edwards (an incoming recruit) and Conner Barrett (also an incoming recruit) as well as Eron Gordon will also be asked to pick up the slack from JFL's departure. Losing a player of JFL's caliber hurts and is never easy but I don't foresee Valpo tumbling back to the bottom of the standings. Our incoming class is good. Our team is young and will grow organically through development and while JFL's departure will be felt, I think we'll have enough to withstand it and at least be respectable this year. Too many what ifs and wait and sees for me to hazard a guess as to where we'll finish but don't write us off and leave us for dead next season just yet.

Coached him in HS (not BB) and feel like a jerk that I forgot he was at ISUb. Hope he does well at Kirkwood

I don't know why people keep saying this. DePaul is pointing up. Leito wont get them there but he does have them going in the right direction. I imagine Yak will take over and get them there in a season or two.

That program has nowhere to go but up. Good luck to JFL. He's going to need it when he sees his supporting cast going up against the rest of the Big East.

I appreciate your enthusiasm but Valpo had JFL, Fazekas and Kiser and still played on Thursday. It's Thursday night again for the Crusaders in 2020-21.

Everyone has injuries I know but I think if Fazekas hadn't missed the first third of conference season and if Javon hadn't contracted Mono late in the year we would have avoided Thursday last year. We were a missed buzzer beater 3 against Drake and\or a little bit better execution against Loyola down the stretch away from doing so even in spite of all of that. I even believe that with a healthy Fazekas we would have beaten UNI in Cedar Falls. None of it matters because last year is last year but I say all of that to say this: would i be shocked if you're right? Absolutely not. We've never avoided Thursday before and we've lost a lot so it's very possible we'll be in that position again. HOWEVER, would I be surprised if I'm right? No. We still have plenty of talent even without JFL and we are gaining a lot this year as well. I have us rigth now with 4 as our absolute high and somewhere in the Thursday range (probably no lower than 8th though I suppose 9th is possible) as our low. I am very interested to see how the team responds this year. I hope that each player takes picking up the slack to fill JFL's shoes as a personal challenge that they long to fulfill. With a coach like Lottich at the helm who oozes competitiveness I think they will do just that. That's why I believe that they'll be better than you think.
