MVC/OVC Podcast

Postby Southern Hoops Fan » May 20th, 2020, 1:24 pm

My friend & I have launched a new podcast called View of the Valleys. It will discuss men's basketball in both the Missouri Valley & Ohio Valley conferences. We have already recorded & released two episodes. Episode 1 is an introductory podcast giving a rundown of what to expect from the podcast. In episode 2, we discuss the expansion of P5 conference schedules, MVC/OVC transfers, & our Mt. Rushmore for Austin Peay & Bradley.

We would greatly appreciate a listen if you're so inclined and let us know what you think. You can also follow us on Twitter @Viewvalleyspod

I am including the show links for Google & Apple podcasts.

That's awesome man! I'll definitely have to listen to this. I am an Indiana State fan, but I also root for Eastern Illinois since they are so close by. I actually recently started a fan page on my personal Facebook where I am going to cover both Valleys in football, basketball, and baseball. Eventually I would like to expand it to include other fan bases other than just my friends who are mostly Sycamore fans, but I am still in the early stages. On the FCS board, Any Given Saturday I do a power ranking in football each week for all of the schools in the MVFC and OVC.

Update: I listened to the first episode and really enjoyed it. The OVC definitely moved the tournament to save money and to play in a nicer arena. I like the tournament format, except for the fact that I think it does limit fan interest. I don't show up until Friday (the Semis) and not letting everyone in limits ticket sales. Most won't buy all-session tickets if they don't even know if their team will be in it. If the OVC played a normal tournament the top 4 seeds would all get a buy which is a big enough advantage in my opinion. As for Evansville it really is a very centralized location unless you are Jax State. It's about 3-4 hours away from everyone else.

Thank you for listening and a bigger thanks for the feedback. Let us know where to find your power rankings and I am sure Chris & I will take a look as well. We both love FCS football to boot.

I figured there were sound reasons for the move to Evansville. Evansville is a nice city to spend some time in. I hadn't thought of fans waiting until the semifinals to arrive, but it makes a lot of sense.

Here is the link to last season's MVFC / OVC football rankings I had going. It's a 13 page thread that I updated each week.
https://www.anygivensaturday.com/showth ... 9-Rankings

Next season (assuming there is one) I will post the rankings on the same site, just in a new thread and it will be a Top 20 thanks to the new addition of North Dakota.

Here is the link to my page on Facebook called "The MOVC Sports Page". It will contain all of my rankings for football, basketball, and baseball. I also will post news stories and old games that are available on YouTube while the off-season is going on. It's a brand new page I just uploaded a week or so ago, so I don't have a lot of follows yet, but I am hoping to grow it. I'm going to eventually promote it on some of the schools' message boards.

Friendly bit of advice, when you get to Murray State, racerhistory.com is a great resource.

Latest episode is now available. We had a great visit with former SIUE head coach and previous Evansville assistant Lennox Forrester (with improved interview audio) and we give our Mt. Rushmore for Eastern Kentucky & Illinois State.
