Wow, really scathing report on Gregg Marshall in Stadium article about player abuse at WSU. Not really surprising following the last two years when there have been ridiculous numbers of transfers out of the program including 7 this past summer. I think we all had seen signs over the years of a pretty intense and at times explosive personality, but this article makes it clear it went beyond the norm for intense competitive coaches.
Couple things stood out to me :1] That despite the obvious inner turmoil on the team for a number of years, the players used it to bond together and remain successful. That's to their credit. 2] That there had to be an effort to cover up administratively , for this to have continued unchecked for this many years. On the shocker board there's reference to an incident in which a student athlete from another sport parked in Marshall's designated spot and that Marshall chased down the student and physically engaged him. According to the info on Shocker net [unverified] a cash settlement was arranged to make that go away.
I can't see Marshall surviving this for a number of reasons. One the amount of players interviewed and citing incidents is significant. It involves both physical and emotional abuse of both players and a former assistant. It involves allegations of ethnic and racial taunts, which of course in today's world is a huge flash point. And finally, remember WBB coach Jody Adams was dismissed a number of years back for many of the same type allegations , setting precedence for what action WSU deems appropriate in such cases. It would look bad if Marshall survived after firing a successful WBB coach for similar incidents.
