It's early and you can call me biased, but by the numbers , 2 of the leading candidates for POY right now are teammates Isiaih Mosley and Gaige Prim of Missouri State. Both dot the statistical leaders in numerous categories not only in the MVC, but nationally.
While Prim is the cornerstone for the Bears and their most important piece , Mosley is fast emerging as one of the best offensive players in college basketball. His efficiency as a perimeter player sets him apart from most high scoring guards . Again it's early, and teams are already starting to focus major defensive attention on the pair , so whether they can maintain current levels will come down to how they adjust and how their teammates are able to make teams pay for that added attention. But right now, they are a tough combo to match up, in large part because they are both efficient scorers , demand an extra defender alot, but both willing passers.
Conference wise as of today, Prim is : #2 in scoring, #1 in rebounding, #1 in fg %, #1 in blocked shots, #5 is assists, and #7 in assists/turnovers. Mosley is : #1 in scoring,#12 in rebounding, #5 in fg%, #1 in 3pt % [ if he had enough] #2 in ft %,#10 in assists, and #15 in stls.
Against Indiana State Mosley averaged : 26 ppg, 5.5 rbs, made 15/26 fgs [.576%] 4/6 3pt [67%] 18/20 ft[90%].
For the year he's averaging 23ppg, 5.4 rbs, shooting 56%fg,46% 3pt,87% ft, and 3 assists all as a 6'5 guard/wing.
