Most Redbird fans are ready to see a change. Now, that very likely comes with losing the young core. Primarily, Washington Fleming and Horne. I think Muller gets another season for three reasons. 1. He fielded one of the youngest teams in the country. 2. COVID- Every player gets an extra year so for a team like ILST, this season is essentially a wash. 3. Money. He's got three years left on his deal. If he gets bought out, its 1.5 million. In a year when the university had little to no revenue coming in from athletics, that's a pretty large bill to take on.
The contract set up by the previous AD was very coach-friendly. If Muller were to get canned, he still gets the full amount. If Muller were to leave and take a new job, he'd have to pay ILST 50k (if I'm remembering correctly) and schedule a game at Redbird with his new team. Muller is definitely benefitting from that.
The Lansing situation is so interesting...I like GL a lot and think he's a good coach in a really bad situation. Now that the Birds are eliminated, I'm rooting hard for INST to win it all. I love a good sports drama and nothing screams it more than telling a coach you aren't bringing him back then have them go out and win a championship. I'd love to see it.
I think the Creighton situation is interesting and nothing will end up happening with McD. I read that he offered to resign and the team didn't want him to. He'll be back but I'd assume when that job opens, Moser and Devries are both on the short list.
Devries and Iowa State seem to be picking up some steam as well. DD is a hell of a coach, but if he really believes all of his players are coming back next year, that could be a really scary team if they are all healthy.
If Porter was going to make a move, I think this would be a good time for him to transition. Of course, they have good talent in the program but with Krutwig, Williamson and Co heading out after the season, one could argue that is the end of Moser's Final Four era and a good time for him to move on.
It'll be an interesting next four or so weeks.
