10th MVC Commissioner to be announced Wednesday

If it's really coming out tomorrow, it seems like it might have leaked somewhere if the candidate was external.

If the candidate is internal, they could keep it all the more secret, like the super secret big news of extending the conference tournament in St. Louis a few years back.

hey now...that was a huge transformational announcement about the future of the valley tourney!

wait...what? *checks notes and sees they only announced that they were going to keep doing the same thing for another 5 years or whatever*

Two internal names to keep an eye on..

Patty Viverito..current commish for the MVFC. MVFC is by far the best FCS conference but that wasn't good enough. She spearheaded the decision to bring in another National Contender with North Dakota. If we want expansion like we all do (cough, Belmont, cough, Murray State), she could very well be the one to do it.

In a world where communication is the key to everything, don't overlook Mike Kern. Been with the MVC for 30 years, serves as associate commish for MVFC, and oversees media relations for MBB, FB, and Golf.

Could be a situation where Viverito gets the Commissioner's job and Kern gets promoted to Senior Associate Commissioner..


Again, I'd like to see an external hire but these are likely two of the internal names at the top of the list.

Definitely need some new blood. Hoping for an external hire. Everybody within the conference seems to have been around 25-30 years, so are probably nearing retirement age. Bring in somebody younger, who can stick around for awhile.

I really hate to say it this way but, with the current trends i'll be surprised if it isn't a "person of color".

Gotta feel pretty good about this pick. As the guy overseeing Big 12 basketball, he has had that conference out performing all but perhaps the Big 10 the last few years. And while it is not a requisite for me, still in a conference that is focused on basketball, to have a minority hire at the top of the league, just makes good sense as well. Good choice I think.
