Cheering Priority

Which team do you root for? If you can't root for them for whatever reason, (not in the tournament) who would you root for next? and so on and so forth.

Before I show my list, 2 points:
1st, sorry for the poor topic name. I'm tired and generally not too articulate.
2nd, this came about because I was conflicted about cheering for Loyola or the Illini. I'm an Illinois guy who would like to see an Illinois team win it all. Normally I'd root for an MVC team, but because the Illini actually have a chance to win it all, I kind of don't want to see an upset.

1st - Salukis
2nd - Any MVC team
3rd - the Illini (Loyola, if you beat them, you'd best be winning it all)
4th - Murray State
5th - Midmajor Underdawgs (I dont include the American conference in this category)
6th - Any other Illinois team
7th - Big10 teams minus new East coast additions (Go Midwest!!!)
8th - UNC
9th - Anybody playing Duke minus Wichita.
10th - If the aliens from Space Jam had a collegiate team
11th - Maaaybe Wichita...

1] MSU BEARS
2] Most MVC teams
3] MU Tigers
4] St Louis U
5]Gonzaga
6] Arkansas
7] Underdog Mid-low majors against a P-5
8] Here's my ying/yang : Any team Counzo Martin coaches/any team Rick Pitino coaches. Rock solid or slippery slope.

Teams I never would root for:
1] Any team associated with Kansas including Kansas City[ which is not in any way part of Missouri]
2] Any Big 10 team
3] Duke
4] Notre Dame
5] Alabama Football
6]Texas in anything

Who I will
1. Illinois State (
2. MVC (except Bradley)
3. I've really enjoyed watching Iowa, Gonzaga, and Houston this year.

Who I won't:
1. Illannoy
2. Wichita State
3. Bradley (But if it really came down to it, I probably would...)

General rule of thumb is that if my team isn't in it, I'm rooting for a good game. For example, I have no interest in seeing any double digit leads throughout the tournament unless it benefits me financially. Generally, I'll root for the UNC-Greensboro's of the world before a Power 5.

11th - Maaaybe Wichita...

This is an interesting thread. But the fact that you have Wichita on your list that maybe you would cheer for kinda invalidates your whole effort.

For me its pretty simple:

1 MSU bears
2 any MVC team
3 mid majors over P5 always

I used to always root against MU no matter what but I now find that hard now that Cuonzo is their coach.

haha.

For me:
1) UNI Panthers
2) Any and all MVC schools playing OOC.
3) [strikethrough]Iowa State[/strikethrough] - we used to have a good relationship with the in state schools and played ISU and Iowa every year (ended 9 or ten years ago). So ISU used to be on my list, but now I cheer for their opponents.
3) Underdogs in general, especially when playing a "blue blood."

This exactly where I live. And I will add....mid majors over P5's even if it kills my bracket!

As a young man I traveled to almost every city in the US over 250,000 doing market research. I found that Kansas City, MO was the most racist city that I had ever been to. I really thought I was going to be physically harmed in Independence because I had taken a black man along with me as a helper.

My issue is it's not a pro Missouri town. It's really part of Kansas, both sides of the state line. With Lawrence and KU so close, they are much more the focus than MU or other Missouri college teams. The Chiefs draw heavily from Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska for their fan base, and the Royals, well that's a minor league farm system team for other American league teams to pilfer. Great options for BBQ, but have little use for KC otherwise.
