Jack Nunge to Evansville???

He is transferring from Iowa to be closer to home after his father's death and multiple knees injuries.

7 foot Soph center who has played well at Iowa. Was in line to replace Garza.

He played at Castle High School in Newburgh IN.

Maybe Evansville will be in the mix.

If he wants to be closer to home, then you would have to think the Purple Aces will be a possibility. Although I guess it will depend on his definition of close. You can bet UE, INSU, IU, Butler, Purdue, Cincinnati, and Xavier will all be telling him how close they are to Newburgh. Definitely one to watch.

And Louisville, SIU, UK, Vanderbilt, Belmont, and on and on. In my opinion, if you are really needing to be closer to home for family purposes you should go all the way and that is only Evansville. If so, and he is healthy, the team is immediately a contender.

Agreed. After UE, it is 95 miles to the next closest D-1 school from Newburgh.

Newburgh, IN to 10 closest D-1 schools:

University of Evansville, Evansville, IN 7.7 miles
Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY 95.7 miles
Austin Peay University, Clarksville, TN 109.9 miles
Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL 111.1 miles
Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN 117.3 miles
Indiana University, Bloomington, IN 118.9 miles
University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 120.1 miles
Bellarmine University, Louisville, KY 121.5 miles
Murray State University, Murray, KY 133.2 miles
Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, IL 140.0 miles

I guess what matters is if he means CLOSER to home, or CLOSEST to home. He could just not be interested in some of the schools above, possibly including Evansville.

If evansville doesn't get this kid that fell in their lap then you have to seriously question the ability of that staff going forward. If iu or something comes in? Fine, but anyone valley level or below gets him then you've got issues.

Whatever school he chooses I'm sure academics will play a big part in his decision. So to say UE has issues if they dont land him is far fetched.

I agree but disagree. Nunge would be a huge pick up for UE. Would completely change the direction of the program. But The team has not had a winning season in a few years. I would not fault him for going elsewhere. I also cannot fault this staff as they had nothing to do with the unattractiveness of the UE program at this particular time.

Recently, the Evansville area is churning out some high D1 players. I agree that UE must become attractive enough for some of them to stay home.

My sources say Nunge will end up at IU,with Butler a possibility. Bloomington is about 1 1/2 hours away and Indy is 3 tops.So you cant blame our coaches for not getting Jack to play at UE.Just because he says he wants to be closer to home it doesn't mean Evansville. Jack could still want to play in a higher caliber league than the MVC

No shame in losing him to IU or Butler. I was more thinking along the lines of Western Kentucky, Indiana State, or other peers. You can't lose a homesick kid to those schools
