Half a dozen years ago when UNI was running Deon Mitchel and Wes Washpun, Deon was the Senior and got the start. But Wes got more minutes.

But yeah, it does mean limited minutes and makes guys want to transfer. Noah Carter put his name in the transfer portal and then stayed. Not sure what made him make each of those decisions. I would think that he found that every other school everywhere was similarly over-stocked.

Both NIL and COVID-year are contributing to overstocked teams.

30 Lucas Williamson
30 Braden Norris
25 Keith Clemons
20 Marquise Kennedy
20 Aher Uguak
15 Tate Hall
15 Jacob Hutson
15 Chris Knight
10 Tom Welch
10 Ryan Schwieger
10 Damezi Anderson

Hutson probably will get more? But it's hard for me to say if he should be equal with Knight, who I've never seen.

Carter never wanted to leave. He got spooked when Jake was going to take the Minnesota job (which he would have if the money worked) and didn't want to play for Kyle Green (because they freaking hate each other). He would have found a home if he wanted to find a home.

UNI is going to play 10 guys with a sprinkle of an 11th, that's how Jake's two best teams operated.

Green
Born
Berhow
Carter
Phyfe

Kimmons
Pickford
Heise
Betz
Mar, Anderson, Duax (sprinkle depending on matchup)

Cole Henry is the odd man out.

More for Trae, Kimmons and Carter, less for AJ, Born and Henry. You don't play a guy 35+ min a game coming off two hip surgeries, especially if you think you can go 10-12 deep.

The year Wichita went to the Final Four, they lost 3-4 starters over the course of the month and still won the league and reached their max potential.

I don't think WSU won the league regular season title or Arch Madness that year. They just caught lightning in a bottle.

I remember the 2010-2011 season and the Shocker fans were talking about how they had the 2 best teams in the MVC with their depth, to which I replied that meant we went 4-0 against them because we swept them that year on the way to the league title. You'll have to excuse UNI fans and their love for Cole Henry. He's tall and makes flashy passes so that makes it okay to ignore the fact he can't shoot, defend or rebound. Hopefully there's something there in the future but it's real hard to see him having much of a role. Not all projects pan out.

Hutson vs. Knight is really the only thing up in the air with Loyola in terms of starting. Hutson looked to be a real stud - after not playing much through February he was great in the post season. But Knight was a two time All-Ivy League second teamer - he's basically a bigger, bouncier Aundre Jackson. This current crop of freshman is also probably the best we've ever had... but who knows if they'll see the floor.

I'd put Kennedy vs Clemons as a starter battle as well. I could see Clemons getting moved to a senior spark plug off the bench. Marquise will be a junior and I think ready to be a starter.

I added up the minutes based on how much I thought each player "ought" to get and it added up to over 260 minutes. Some of these, I felt like I was being pretty conservative ("+") and really they should have more.

36 AJ Green
35 Trae Berhow
30 Nate Heise
30+ Austin Phyfe
15 Antwan Kimmons
20+ Bowen Born
20+ Tywhon Pickford
20+ Noah Carter
15+ Tytan Anderson
13 Goanar Mar
8 Cole Henry
8 James Betz
5 Michael Duax
2 Drew Daniel
2 Derek Krogmann

Both AJ and Antwan Kimmons were out most of last season. It'll be interesting to see where Bowen and Antwan come in for minutes - whoever plays alongside AJ best and helps the flow of the offense.

I could be way off - but I'm curious about the extra COVID-year scholarships everyone has - what does your team look like?

Question: in the Lindy's preseason preview magazine, there is a section looking at the conference's recruiting classes, and Chase Courbat is listed as the newcomer who will make the most impact (over guys like DeVries and several other more-hyped recruits around the league). He's not even noted as a projected rotation piece above. Seems like a pretty big disconnect: what gives?

If Chase Courbat plays any kind of significant role for UNI, you can go ahead and pencil us in for 10th. I've watched him several times and I have no idea what the staff sees in him, other than being the 6-10 grandson of one of UNI's most prominent boosters. He got routinely owned in high school by 6-6 kids that are playing D3 ball. He'll have to make light year type strides to get to the level of being an Austin Pehl or Justin Dahl.

Well then ... appears that scribe might have missed the mark there. :P

Lindy's has always been the most poorly written and researched basketball magazine available. I assume they still are.
