Wasnt their a tweet saying the MVC is trying to get into new markets, meaning the best markets not teams. Nashville is a great add. Since slu and Dayton aren't realistic maybe they'll still try to do something crazy like long Beach state and St Mary's. The 2nd and 6th markets. Sure lbsu isn't a strong sports school now but it has the right ingredients. St Mary's is strong in basketball. Gcu in a top 10 market and Denver is top 15. But LBSU is only public of those mentioned. I think this would be better than Arlington and a private like oral Robert's or nku and some private.

I mean, in his defense...it's not about that. It's definitely about football and basketball, where all the money is and where MSU has won that amount of championships in that time period.

Unfortunately, many former FCS schools that have made the jump to FBS have struggled somewhat. Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Marshall all won numerous FCS National Championships. I doubt the'll win any more based on how the Power 5 have a strong hold on the playoff system. If the goal is to play in the http://www.kohler.com Bowl on a Tuesday afternoon in early December with zero audience, have at it. I'd much rather have my Salukis play for the National Playoffs and a shot at a National Title. As far as hoops is concerned, I remember Southwest Missouri State went to a Sweet 16 with Steve Alford, but what have they done since? AAC?

If the Valley is really looking for a West Coast team, Grand Canyon is the most logical option. But then again, if they're adding Belmont; they'll probably look for a public school.

I figured Murray is already in. My thought was what could make them want to go to 14 but being realistic.

I doubt Grand Canyon is attainable anymore, especially if they add football, as the WAC membership is moving in the direction of FBS collectively. Also, I can see the MWC taking a flyer on them, so they'd bypass the Valley either way.

And in truth, it's 99% football and 1% basketball.

I like the outside the box thinking. . .remember we floated having the Valley tournament in Vegas. . .

That said, you can do the same thing and still be geographically smart. If you add UTA, why not add a New Orleans to solidify the south? Cleveland State gets you the 17th biggest combined statistical area.

I like Belmont to MVC as I think this is 2 more games a year that improve every team’s schedule. I think they can compete too. As a Bears fan I do think they should still be open for a FBS move if it presents itself. As it stands Belmont would be a welcome addition and I hope the MVC continues to be proactive instead of reactive.

Again please note, my wish would be for this to play out over a couple years, the G5 and upperlevel FCS all merge and then the Bears stay in a revamped 16-20 team MVC league that included both football and basketball and basketball only teams like Bradley and Loyola[ I didn't mention Drake because they do play football].

Why would the MVC add two schools that the Sun Belt doesn't want? If they were so great and their markets were so valuable wouldn't they want to keep them.

I'm also so tired of hearing about Missouri State being on an island. Tulsa left a quarter of a century ago. Wichita has been gone for over 4 years and MSU isn't any farther west than they used to be. If FBS football is their dream adding the Sun Belt outcasts won't keep them around.

Another question. If MSU is on an island then what would you call UTA? It is practically the same distance to Arlington, TX and Chicago, IL from Springfield, MO. As far as I'm concerned the SBC outcasts can go for the SLC, Summit League, or whatever is left of the OVC. There's no reason whatsoever to add garbage schools that are way far away. It's Murray State or bust for me, and trust me Murray State wants out of the OVC.
