As a Racer fan, I really hope that Murray State isn't taking an all or nothing stance with football unless it absolutely has no other choice (meaning affiliate status somewhere is impossible). And I don't believe it would take such a stance. If so, I can understand the MVC/MVFC saying no.

As a fan, I don't want to see our football program at the bottom of the league and getting weekly beat downs. I can't see us taking funds away from hoops just to prop up a football program that has little interest compared to basketball.

I HOPE the delay of Murray joining the MVC, as others have said, is related to finding football a non-MVFC home. Once that happens, maybe the rest will quickly follow.

Does anybody making any of these arguments or statement about Murray to the Valley have any actual knowledge? I have read through the thread and it does not appear so. How do people get worked up and angry about hypotheticals they know nothing about? We don't even know if Murray is interested or if the Valley membership has even discussed their possible admission.

We have been preparing for this event for since 2017. So to even think we aren’t interested is foolish. Most of our speculations are based on what happened last time and the excuses we heard then.

About possible admission, there has been too many “in the know” people say it happened to dismiss that also. Now what stage it is in, no one knows that.

A reliable word on the street says as soon as we find a football home we’ll be seeing you next fall.

Did some digging with people I trust. Northeastern was REALLY interested and UMass also had some preliminary talks that definitely weren't a dead end.

Honest question for Murray State fans Is going independent in football really the end of the world if you can't find a conference home? I know being an independent in FCS sucks far worse than being one in FBS which is already terrible but is holding out for a football conference really worth sentencing your flagship sport to a lifetime of 14/15 seeds in a one bid league with likely zero Q1 or Q2 opportunities? It's not ideal but I feel like sacrificing football for the good of the rest of the athletic department seems like an easy call if that's the only hurdle. Hope we hear some updates on things here soon

We aren’t going Independent. One of our Regents is football alumni, Eric Crigler, and he will absolutely take care of the program. I still believe we will be playing football in the OVC a couple more years while most of the rest of sports goes MVC. The OVC needs us as bad as we need them for football.

You can't outwardly harm a major sport. I'm sure they fundraise off of football some and how would you recruit when you openly say you don't care.

I'm not sure you could even put a full schedule together as an FCS independent and I don't know how you'd ever get home games. It's a non-starter.

How in the world would UMass have any interest in the MVC, given the fact they would receive far less television money and would have increased travel expenses? That makes zero sense for them to move from the A-10.

I don't get it either but there must be a reason in there somewhere. Northeastern was the original contact and UMass got involved later. Hell, if it's a possibility, take both of them.

It's just simply the wild, wild west in realignment right now.
