When WSU moved to the AAC, what just happened was predicted as the downside of joining the AAC. Now it happened. As long as Memphis, SMU, and Tulsa are still in the AAC, it's a better league for NCAA tourney chances than the MVC. I'm going to have to see Loyola continue as a strong team after Moser left.

WSU isn't getting the result they were expecting when they left the MVC, but will still be getting $2 mill a year from ESPN. Even with a renegotiated contract somewhere in the 2030's, the TV revenues from ESPN will still be in the $1 - $1.5 mill range.

The Big East is looking to expand. WSU is listed as the #2 - #4 prospect. Gonzaga is #1, but the thought is that Gonzaga wouldn't move to an east coast conference.

There's another aspect to this current realignment. The AAC just raided CUSA. The Sun Belt is likely to make a move on the remaining CUSA teams. That could leave both the Sun Belt and CUSA looking to add members. The MVFC is a likely target for adds.

If MVFC teams are invited to join FBS leagues, do they commit to the extra $$ and move? If they move, do they take their Olympic sports with them?

They would have to. FBS conference rules demand it. An FBS conference needs 8 full members to be viable. I hope no MVC teams get poached. I want everyone to stay together and continue to build the league through expansion adds. And if the MVC loses one or more teams to FBS it would significantly weaken the league without question. I don't see any MVFC teams leaving at this time but I suppose it's possible.

Missouri State would be the one team that could possible leave. They've had discussions and have done studies to figure out if it's viable for them. I get it from a money standpoint I guess but I honestly don't get as a fan why you'd want to be a fan of an FBS school in a mid-major league playing for crappy bowl games in Shreveport, LA over playing in the FCS for National Championships.

Schools like MSU probably figure that they have a better chance at winning 6 games in 12 attempts, than 7 in only 11 attempts. You also get massive paydays from P5 schools and the bowls generally pay decent money. Likely more TV money involved too.

The downsides of course are adding more sports, coaches, and players (aka expenses). Not sure if it pays off or not, but there's way more examples of schools moving up than moving down.

Remember as has been studied over and over again football is a massive money loser for basically all but the P5 and a few lucky G5 schools. Missouri State or any other team moving up to FBS would have to take that into account in any move. This would require a school like Missouri State to essentially renounce all other sports on the altar of being a football school forever. Given the quality of their men's and women's basketball their volleyball and their baseball is that really what they want to do? Doesn't seem smart to me. If they want to join CUSA and play low ratings low attendance games against teams like FIU UTEP and other recent FCS callups in the new CUSA as will likely be the scenario more power to them I guess but I would take the MVC over that option any day.

Can we stop with this Wichita getting into the Big East thing?

A room full of East Coast Jesuit presidents isn't voting to admit an urban public in the middle of Kansas that doesn't have a great academic reputation. UConn had decades and decades of history with that group, Wichita had nothing but an on again/off again rivalry with the newest kid on the block.

Gonzaga, Dayton, St Louis, St Joe's, St Bonaventure, Richmond and VCU would ALL have to say no before Wichita would even get a post card, let alone a visit.

This; and gotta luv Aargh continuing the typical WSU attempt at superiority by saying an AAC that has SMU,Memphis and Tulsa is still superior to the MVC as a basketball league. Let's see that would be an SMU team that has barely been above .500 the last 3 years and has made exactly as many NCAA Tourneys [2] in the last 30 years as Bradley made in the last 3. Or a Memphis team that while perhaps on the rise at least recruiting wise, hasn't made an NCAA Tourney under Penny and none in the last 7 years, and a Tulsa team that hasn't made one in the last 5. Nice names, but Drake, Loyola and UNI are all better programs in the past 5 years; just the facts, oh and then there's that Belmont addition . I'm sorry, but the AAC looks weaker once the moves take place than several MM conferences like the MVC & A-10 to name 2.

They're just trying to justify their decision a few years ago. The TV deal has to be the only positive at this point, and that will be reduced after these teams depart. I'm really interested in seeing the A-10 and MVC hopefully pass them up in a few years.

The lower level bowl payouts usually just cover travel costs. Flights hotels meals for 100+ players and staff adds up. Plus those bowls generally give each school a few thousand tickets and reduce the payout by the face value of the tickets. If the FBS school doesn’t sell all its tickets it might return it to the bowl and hopefully the bowl can sell them but those Montgomery type bowls usually don’t sell out.

The MAC schools each gets $850K from their ESPN deal. It’s not bad but you pay production costs out of that and plus you play 4+ games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in November on ESPN2 or U. Makes it harder to tailgate and sell tickets to out of town fans.

The last NCAA analysis had G5 schools losing like $8 million more per year than FCS. And I think that was before stipends became a thing.

They will forever form my opinion of Wichita State.

Yes they were, not just toward the Aces, but against most everyone.
