Matt Brown who has been really on it this realignment cycle (had the Belmont news before pretty much everyone for instance) has said that the WAC is expected to vote on adding McNeese State and University of the Incarnate Word both Southland members on Tuesday. That would leave the Southland very desperate for immediate membership. Murray State football affiliation and MVC invite incoming? (He hasn't said anything about Murray State partnering with the Southland that is my own speculation but it WOULD make sense if Murray State is willing to make the commitment).

Unless it directly involves Murray State to the MVC I would say that it doesn't affect Murray State going to the MVC. And I mean this in a serious way.

Completely agree. These non-stop fantasy scenarios are getting exhausting. Never thought I would see a day when a Southland school goes to the WAC that it would be brought here under "good news".

There's only three things that directly impact Murray State joining the MVC.

1) The MVC office wanting them.
2) The existing membership wanting them.
3) Murray State wanting an invite.

And FWIW if the MVC invites Murray State there's no doubt in my mind that they will also be in the MVFC.

Personally I think a mixture of #1 and #2 are why Murray State hasn't been invited. They don't seem to want them for whatever reason and that's just unfortunate.

I appreciate the enthusiasm from VUGrad but I think this Southland news is grasping at straws. I don't see Murray going to the Southland because it doesn't really accomplish anything for either party.

An OVC-Southland merger would be more likely than Murray going to the Southland, but I also don't see the former happening considering travel costs.

I'd say the chances of Murray to the MVC are slim at this point and I firmly believe it's our CRAPPY football program holding it up.

Until I hear something of a definite nature by either the MVC office or Murray State, I will believe something is still in process.

Now this.... Could be significant...

https://twitter.com/Brett_McMurphy/stat ... age-2.html

Jacksonville State leaving the A-Sun opens up a geographically sensible pairing for the conference of Murray State FB only and Southern Indiana from D2 for Olympic sports and could clear the way for Murray to the MVC. If nothing else it gives Murray State another option if they absolutely want out of the OVC which increases their leverage not that they would use it in this way. I still think the preference is for the MVC so I think the FB only A-Sun partnership with MVC Olympic sports for the Racers is the most likely outcome (at least I hope so)

This would certainly make CUSA geographically odd.

McNeese State and the University of the Incarnate Word are headed to the WAC to replace New Mexico State and Sam Houston State. Some speculation that the WAC could be losing more members. The Southland could be in real trouble unless they have a good number of D2 callups lined up. Like I have said if football is the holdup for Murray State to the MVC we should have a resolution soon because there will be spots opening up. I can't understand what other holdup there could be beyond petty BS that shouldn't be part of the decisionmaking process so I'm assuming it is indeed football related until I hear concrete proof otherwise.

You are seriously grasping at any straw that you can imagine.

What if...The MVC just doesn't want them? It is possible...

No league, no matter how desperate, is going to take a football only member that they know is going to leave in two years.

There's been no smoke anywhere except from one flippant tweet from a radio guy in Kentucky. Nothing from Matt Brown, nothing from McMurry, nothing from Norlander, nothing from any other person that's had scoops on other realignment.

I totally understand why SIU doesn't want them. Right or wrong, UNI isn't willing to sacrifice the money, revenue and alumni engagement that football provides to get them in. I can't imagine the privates are real enthused by a very average academic institution that brings nearly nothing in market size and potential students/enrollment (reminder that UNI, Indiana State and SIU aren't trying to get into the league in 2021).

From a scheduling with 11 perspective, our volleyball staff is actually kind of excited that there are going to be more mid-week games and that you won't always have the back to back nights and getting massively overshadowed by football Saturdays. In MBB, the only difference is that everybody will play two or three league games in early December and we'll all get two 'byes' during the season though there is a slight chance that we'll wrap that last league game around to the Monday night of Arch Madness week like we used to.

I think Kyle is right. The Valley just flat doesn't want them that bad to upset everything else and if they were this hot property to have they wouldn't be stuck in a dying OVC.
