That's not how any of this works. A fiduciary for two groups has two act in the best interests for both, not merely do a pretty good job for both. If, and I have no idea if this is true, Missouri State is actively soliciting invitations from other conferences and/or is in discussions to join other conferences, President Smart should absolutely withdraw as part of the expansion group. At this stage it might not be necessary but the second it crosses that line I mentioned, it would not make any sense for him to serve in both roles. This is kind of hyperbole, but, you wouldn't want the President of Texas or OU leading the Big 12 expansion committee would you?

That's such a dumb comparison. Both Texas and and Oklahoma have already made decisions to leave the Big 12, Missouri State hasn't said it's going anywhere. Tell me a conference President that isn't open to hearing the sales pitch from a better situation. You want to penalize Smart because he's honest and up front about the process. I would suggest in doing so, he's in better position to help the MVC because he's talking with other schools and presidents all the time who are also trying to decide where they fit and want to be in the next decade or so. People get on the net and start talking, which means exactly nothing. I don't care if you have a differing opinion, but suggesting someones integrity is suspect when you know jack is irresponsible and deserves being called out. And while I never comment on another teams board; it doesn't mean I don't read them, so Drakey's opinion about MSU far proceeds this last of his little whines. But again, that's ok, he can say what he wants, but don't think it gets to be a free shot at someone's integrity . Say it on the Drake board, and I consider that an insider discussion; say it on this board , and it becomes fair game for rebuttal .

I don't see it as a "dumb comparison."

I mean there is easily a possible conflict of interest. Now, adding Belmont was clearly a good move for the MVC. But what if the CUSA had a good team we would want in the MVC, like Western Kentucky, or something and we have a MVC decision maker who is building CUSA ties behind the scenes?

Now BEARZ77 makes the point that those "ties" or "discussions" can be at various levels, which is right and makes is a bit of a gray area.

So you think the Texas AD would have been the best person to lead a Big 12 expansion committee a year ago? I'm sorry if it offends you, but in light of the numerous postings by MSU fans that the goal is to leave the conference, I would be more comfortable with UNI or Bradley's AD leading this committee.

Right. The phrase "conflict of interest" exists for a reason. Judges (for whom impartiality is an expectation) are generally expected to recuse themselves from cases where they may have a personal stake.

WKU has FBS football. They aren't dropping down anor being FBS independent is really hard to navigate unless you have a lot of money. 100% they choose CUSA over the MVC. They are a football first school.

Not talking about the Texas AD or the Big 12, talking about this situation. Funny this board has had a running thread for 2 years screaming for a Belmont add, and Smart delivered . Now the small minded here probably prefer safe and boring, I prefer a little risk and someone who get's the job done. But to each their own. :buddies:

I'd be fine with our president doing it but our AD can't even do his own job so lets keep him as far away from any real decisions as possible.

As one of those numerous MSU fans speculating on relocation, what we're expressing here is our opinion. The opinion of Missouri State fans and alumni that Missouri State should move to an FBS conference does not mean that the primary goal of the Missouri State administration isto find an FBS conference to join.

If anything, the proof is in the pudding: Matt Brown reported that Missouri State said no to C-USA. If the administration's primary goal was to bolt the MVC for the first FBS conference that came calling, then they wouldn't have cut off those conversations.

And yet, you want to call into question a man's integrity and argue he has a conflict of interest based on the evidence of... Bears fans posting online?

Unpopular opinion here....

Add Murray St., South Dakota St., and NDSU.

Commit to moving to FBS as a conference over 5 years. Football would generate more TV revenue and I don't think it would hurt our basketball product.

If a team moves out, we become far more attractive to schools like WKU, and potentially even a Tulsa or Memphis if the AAC implodes. Football could be competitive with conferences like the MAC, watered down AAC, and much better than C-USA and the new WAC.
