Can't win if you don't try. I'd rather try. Is it better than the MVC? No, but at least its a stairway if you do it right and Illinois State just may find a major donor should they want to do that in 5 years or so...

About 100% of the realignment moves are based on $$. Moving from BCS to FBS is pricey. Additional FB schollies require additional women's sports. The CUSA TV contract might not pay enough for a move from the MVC to make economic sense.

To move up the realignment escalator requires TV viewers that can attract TV sponsors. No conference is going to invite another school unless they think that school can add enough viewers to cover their portion of TV revenuies and provide additional $$ to the current revenue.

CUSA is in a desperate struggle to minimize losses. They're going to take some. The AAC is going to take larger losses, but it appears that current members will have the same guarantees through the end of the contract in the 2030's range. The additions through realignment will not get full shares.

MSU moving to FBS and not getting a full share of the league's TV package would make it seem impossible for MSU to absorb the financial hit that moving would require.

I'd give my left nut to be in this watered down cusa. Fbs and can definitely compete and catch eyes for next wave of expansion. The problem is isu needs about 6,500 more seats to make the jump

Lol what CUSA contract? Their games are on Facebook/Stadium. That's part of the problem. The MAC gets like $800K per school but with the drawback of playing Tuesday night games. SB too but even less.
