UNI-SIU used to be gangbusters about 15 years ago but that's kind of faded and was definitely more of a football rivalry. UNI-SMS was a thing for a while since our paths to DI and the Valley were basically the same.

Drake I guess. I mean, until Darian (a UNI grad and former Mac assistant who grew up 20 minutes from Cedar Falls) got there, I don't think a single UNI fan really cared or thought about Drake at all. It'll probably continue to get a little better as long as Drake stays good.

The War on 74 is definitely the best rivalry remaining in the MVC.

As a Panther fan, Drake and UNI is gaining intensity in recent years. We used to play our other in-state schools annually, but they're a bunch of big cry-babies and refuse to play.

I think my ranking changes every few years, but the way I see it, Murray's are, in this order:

1. Belmont
2. Austin Peay
3. Western Kentucky
4. SIU

Of all those, I think I enjoy beating WKU the most because their fans are absolutely obnoxious.

Another way I look at it as how everyone looks at the matchups in STL. Drake beating UNI in 2020 generated so much buzz because it was a big upset, but also because it was Drake that did it to UNI. (Belmont-Murray probably will fit in this category as well due to close proximity to each other and having played in their conference tournament many times)

Bradley and ISU haven't played in STL since 2004, and that matchup was on a Thursday so it didn't have that much juice (I was too young, don't remember). If Bradley and ISU played in STL on a Friday, or god forbid a Saturday or a Sunday, I can't even imagine what that atmosphere would be like.

From an MSU perspective (IMHO), long term off and on would have to be SIU, especially in the late 90's early 2000's. But recently, I would have to say UNI....you can just tell these two teams don't like each other, including the coaching staffs. Ford and Jacobson can never walk past each other fast enough after a game, as there is barely an acknowledgement there. I think UNI has given MSU fans more heartburn over the years than any other team.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Sure, Drake costs more... But you're paying for that D+ advantage.

WSU Shockers vs Tulsa Golden Hurricane, Salukis vs Bluejays, we're always great rivalry games.
Have to agree with others here that "The War on 74" is the best in the MVC.

Agreed there. I don't think there's a ton of 'like' between those staffs.

The programs and success are so vastly different between two that I don't think there's a ton of respect either way. Its fun. I'm really looking forward to your trip to Cedar Falls in February. We were still no fans last year when you played up here. Sign me up for another Mosley-Green shootout.
