That makes zero sense; I think the MSU has so much more talent mantra is a bit over stated. Perhaps the recognition that Ford is able to identify and coach up talent needs to be stressed more, because it's not like our guys were all 3 and 4 star guys we beat P-5 programs for. I think it bares noting that previous players like Desilva, Cook,Webster, etc all performed well above their recruiting status under Ford ; his problem has been getting a consistent level of play from his team, but other than Devries current and Jake historic, who's doing a better job than Ford .Of course we have to see how Belmont and Murray St transition and they have proven coaches too. I just think the idea that Ford grabs better talent and under coaches them is not as cut and dried as some think. More accurate is he has a good eye for potential, can sell himself and program, and then knows how to develop and use that potential . He has weaknesses in some areas , but again, tell me who other than the guys mentioned, are doing a better job in this league.
I think that is a league wide problem, not just at Missouri State. Think about this...
Bradley fired Jim Les in 2011. They hired Geno Ford, then fired him after 4 years. Now Brian Wardle is there. Is Wardle a major upgrade over Les?
Evansville is a complete disaster and has been for a while.
Illinois State lost Tim Jankovich to SMU and replaced him Dan Muller. If they don't keep Muller, can they hire someone that is an upgrade?
Southern Illinois was run into the ground by Chris Lowery, then had 7 years with Barry Hinson. Then they hired Bryan Mullins on the strength of him being the PG that they loved and being an assistant coach on some really good teams. Isn't that the same reason they hired Lowery? Keep in mind, this comes after having Bruce Weber and Matt Painter.
Valparaiso had the Drew family, now they have Matt Lottich. I think that speaks for itself.
Drake and Northern Iowa have really quality head coaches and I believe Indiana State does as well, but it's still a little early to tell at ISU.
Don't worry, it happens everywhere.
