The Valley in 5 Years

Postby Kip Dynamite » February 24th, 2022, 9:21 pm

I’m curious to get everyone’s thoughts of what they think the conference might look like in the next five years. My best guess is that Belmont and Missouri State will be gone and maybe even Evansville.
I believe that Belmont will be picked up by the A10 because they are going to want that Nashville market. I also believe that Missouri State will be moving for FBS football to probably the Sun Belt the next time they have an opening. As for Evansville, it’s possible they end up in a lesser league for competitive purposes. I would be curious of other peoples thoughts on this.

I think it's impossible to really know until we know what the new DI governing structure looks like but assuming there aren't any major changes to that structure I think they Valley looks exactly the same as it will next year.

Missouri State isn't jumping unless CUSA can show legitimate stability and competent leadership. They aren't getting a Sun Belt or American invite.

Belmont is notoriously cautious. They aren't going to jump right away otherwise they would have been in the Valley 5 years ago. Plus, I can't imagine the A10 making a move unless the Big East takes something from them and the Big East seems pretty content.

Evansville isn't going to move down. Nobody moves down. Too much pride and money at stake.

Not to throw gas on your fire but Belmont also said they would never leave the OVC and felt that it was a perfect fit. Also I'm extremely proud that we just drummed them by 33 points again tonight.

In fairness to Belmont I don't think they leave if the league doesn't have a lot of the same teams it used to have.

Not only will the 12 be the same, but the MVC will surpass both the A10 and American in basketball. I’m bullish on this league. I don’t see anyone leaving or joining. It should be a consistent two-big league, which will generate a lot of money for the athletic departments of every member school. I don’t see any of these teams going anywhere in five years.

The next Sun Belt openings will go to WKU and MTSU.

UE will be fine. It’s an extremely rare phenomenon for schools to voluntarily downgrade.

2027 Arch Madness will look exactly the same as 2023 Arch Madness.

Just called your shot at a Top 4 with no idea what the roster or coaching staff looks like.

Ballsy. Love it.

Had originally wrote top 2 but drew back. LOL. There's hope that by 2027, ILST is competitive again. After having the same thing going on the last decade, it's excited to have something new coming in, whatever that may be.

The MVC isn't actively looking at new teams. If something were to happen like MSU were to leave or a team like St. Thomas shows they're formidable then they act. But, it's all external forces at play.
