I'm looking forward to both games today. Any of these 4 teams can win it all so it should be high energy!

1) How is UNI-Loyola officiated? Valentine has gone full Izzo and decided they're going to bump and grab and UNI has done nothing but continuously attack the lane. Whoever gets the whistle wins.

2) How does Drake defend Mosley without Wilkins? It's going to have to be by committee. Does Darian have enough different looks to bother him and can Brodie stay on the floor against Prim?

I don’t want people to take this as complaining as both teams could have played this way if they wanted.

But Loyola straight up could have been called for a foul on nearly every possession in yesterdays game. The officiating played no role in who won the game. Let me be clear. But the amount of physicality they were allowed to play with was striking. Bradley didn’t match that.

It’s one huge area I wish college refs would clean up. There is wayyy too much bumping and grabbing and restricting movement of guys with the ball in the college game. I watched the Bulls-Bucks game last night and that game had way more freedom and didn’t allow defenders to just get up in the offensive players space by bodying him.

Anyway - should be some great games today.

All you need to know about Loyola is that they average 26 fouls in losses and 16 in wins. 100% whistle dependent.

I think students just didn’t show (or if they did, sat in the stands).

They should just flip the two behind-the-basket sections so the one on the tv side is always guaranteed to be full with band/spirit squads.

Agree. Or have one block for band and the other for cheer/dance.

Oh, brother. "100% whistle dependent" is pretty snide/demeaning. I'm sure their wins have nothing to do with talent, experience, good shooting, good defense. Loyola had 14 fouls to UNI's 12 fouls in their game at Gentile, and won by almost 30 points.

I would bet 99% of teams average more fouls in losses due to fouling at end of games.

There's no doubt that Loyola benefits from a loosely called game given their style of defense. But to say that's all you need to know about them and they are 100% dependent on the refs is just...wrong.

I think you took “100% … dependent” a little too literally.

The SIU Dawg Pound went and they were put in the upper deck. There's no students behind the basket apparently this year.
