When do you think the college basketball season starts?
When do YOU think the college basketball season starts? This isn't high school. The season doesn't start on the first official practice day.

Whether you think so or not, Ziggy needs to make a hire ASAP so they can get a summer program rolling. They way he fired the entire staff ensures a washout for this year's recruiting class and most of next seasons. The only saving grace is that the transfer portal is full of players - stop-gap players to be sure and by the time UE gets a staff they'll be leftovers - but at least they can fill a roster with them.

I get that a new AD wants to make a splash, blah, blah, blah...but he really neutered an already struggling program with this and surely made it more difficult to find a competent coach.
“Asap” “washout” “stop gap” “leftovers” “make a splash” “neutered”

Calm down
They get almost 2 months of practice before the first game, it will be ok

Is Tyra Buss a candidate? On UE’s board, there’s a thread campaigning for a Tyra Buss regime in Evansville.

https://purpleaceplace.freeforums.net/t ... coach-tyra

I've made my choice. The next head basketball coach at UE should be women's assistant Tyra Buss. She would be the 5th woman to coach at the D1 level. All the others were assistants. Being the first D1 men's head coach would create an instant national buzz. But more than just a gender circus act, the high scoring Tyra Buss rose to Illinois high school and IU/Big Ten fame by being a tireless and dedicated gym rat. The men could learn from her work ethic. Basketball is her superpower.

Yes, she's young. After Lickliter completes his 3-year contract she will turn 27 and have had 3 years assisting the Lady Aces. With her high basketball IQ and maturity beyond her years she will be ready. Her youth would only add to the national buzz. Dane Fife became head coach at IPFW at the age of 26 and remained there for 6 years. It can be done. Instead of being stuck in the Arad glory years and expecting that to appeal to this generation of fans (it doesn't), it's time to swing for the fences. And what's the worse that could happen? An 0-18 MVC finish? Been there, did that, with two experienced, whiskered coaches just this year. Head Coach Tyra Buss!

Whoever replaces him needs to be talking about where they are, what they want and who needs to be involved. Tyra Buss is not somebody who should be excluded from that discussion, and if she's a person who can spawn more local interest in the UE program, then give her a contract. She isn't going to remain the assistant coach for a man who can't win 20 percent of his games ... and I am a firm supporter in any coup to replace him.

That thread is two years old, and was started by a poster who was good at starting goofy and non-sensical threads. There was quite a bit of chatter at that time for Buss to take over the women's program. The coach at that time was simply horrific and had a persona that would make Lickliter look like Richard Simmons. I am pretty sure your last quote was in regards to her taking over for Ruffing, not Lickliter. She was popular, and many of the posters were taking the approach the Valpo one did with Steele...she's better than Ruffing.

She wasn't even considered for the women's position when it came open, although she was the lone assistant who was kept on. She later left to take an assistant position at UW-Milwaukee so she could be near her fiance, Brad Davidson.

Oh, I know Tyra Buss isn’t really a candidate and no one else thinks she is. I just saw that thread on the front page today and nearly lost my organs laughing over how ridiculous that poster was. One of the most insane things I’ve ever read.

Interesting to call yourself a fan of a program but be okay with your favorite team pulling a publicity stunt like that. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed watching Tyra Buss play in high school and at IU...But good grief...

Publicity stunt? What on earth are you rambling about?

No one beside one half-baked poster ever advocated for Buss to be anything other than what she was, a young assistant for the women's team. Period.

I guess I didn’t say this clearly. I wasn’t talking about YOU, but instead this poster that did advocate for it on Evansville’s board. I do remember reading that a while back. Now that I’ve read the post, I can see the confusion. Relax haha

No one in or around Evansville is relaxed right now…
Until this gets turned around (and all the fugitives are caught), Aces Fans are on high alert.

Got it. Actually, I interpreted it as you were saying the school had pulled some type of publicity stunt already. That is what I couldn't figure out.

This poster has since went bye-bye, and I am sure even he didn't actually advocate it, just looking to stir garbage up. I guess it worked, we are still talking about it 2 years later. Seems like you guys have a similar whack with all the bring back Chris Lowery posts.

Is Evansville getting any closer to making a decision? If you're going to fire as late in the game as they did, then you ought to have had a couple candidates who would have said yes by now.
