New coach should be named by middle of next week, if not sooner.

Yep. The one thing for certain is our new AD has done an excellent job of frequently communicating to both the media and with social media updates and timelines. This may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but this is an absolute 180 from the secret regime our previous AD and Lickliter operated under.

A lot of twitter chatter yesterday that it was Ben McCollum and they were just finalizing the deal. No idea the validity of any of that. Nothing from any legitimate source other than they expected a decision within a few days.

I think that would be a good hire.

If they actually land McCollum, I'll stop making fun of UE for firing a coach and the entire staff in May with no replacement lined up. I'll also stop needling their fan for acting like there's no issue with not have a coaching staff or any semblance of a DI roster at this time of year. He doesn't have DI experience, but he's definitely recruited DI-caliber players and has put together some very good teams.

I don't think Evansville is a good enough job to leave the DII powerhouse that he's spent 13 years building, but Evansville is a better place than Maryville, Mo., so there is a chance.

When Evansville hires a coach, I’ll stop making fun of you for:
A) not knowing that Anyone > Lickliter (no matter the hire date)
B) not realizing UE > NW MO

You're just wrong about the firing/hiring date. It is an absolute issue regardless of how you feel about Lickliter.

You can't honestly think that Evansville is a good enough job for McCollum to leave NW Missouri State for, especially in late May.

Kim Anderson, who wasn't as good as McCollum, got the freaking Missouri job from Central Missouri.

Evansville isn't paying Mizzou money.

If Evansville lands McCollum, I'll delete my account.

In fact: MODS - please delete my account if Evansville's next head coach is Ben McCollum.

Evansville better than any D2 job and likely pays at least double.

I am not sure what school you support, but my guess is it isn't Indiana State. If so, you would probably be aware they also hired a successful D-2 coach, without Mizzou money. I am pretty sure UE has a little more to throw around than ISU did. If McCullom is the choice, they will find the money if that is the issue for him.

The timeline isn't great, if you were expecting something this year. Tell me, what pre-season place would you have placed UE if we had held onto Lickliter? The program needs a serious reset, and I would just assume start it now than wait another year, regardless of the timing.

I never said Evansville wasn't better than a D2 job or that it doesn't pay more. I said I don't think it's good enough for McCollum to leave for. And I'm going to believe that until UE behaves differently than it has.

Including the additional reply here:
With all credit to Schertz for his success at the DII level, he's not in McCollum's stratosphere.

We're also now comparing coaching salaries at the two lowest-paying MVC schools as some sort of litmus test for attracting a coach. Evansville is likely to be able to come up with more money to pay a coach than Indiana state, but that's not exactly saying much. Both of those schools have demonstrated that they aren't going to be big spenders to pay a coach. Marty Simmons was making less than 200k, McCarty was about 225k based on an article in the Springfield News Leader.

I totally agree Evansville needs a reset. It already is a tough job to hire for if you start the process when the most coaches are going to be available. It's exceptionally difficult to do so when you start in May and pay your coach at the bottom of the league...and have no players or assistants.

I hope Evansville is finally serious about being competitive. I truly do. Maybe Ziggy is the guy who can put together an offer for a guy who can make Evansville competitive. For the league's sake, I hope that happens. I hope they can figure out how to land a guy like McCollum. Better yet, I hope it is McCollum and I have to delete my account.
