What players have Evansville brought in are better than Shamar Givance, Juwaun Newton and Blake Sisley?

I don't think that players being 'better' is always the end-all answer to recruiting. The issue at UE is how the roster works as a unit under a new coaching regime. Any player can be better for one game, or two games. All of them can clank 8 shots in a row the very next day. If the new players are a better fit for the roster, it's a win for the team -- not the player.

It's not exactly that the players brought in are better then the ones from last year, but how they are coached to play that counts. The Aces as a whole won't be holding the ball for 28 seconds before they get off an unbalanced 3 point shot. They will be coached to play defense the right way. They will be coached how to get rebounds, both offensive, and defensive. Ragland has been associated with winning programs, and Snow, and Wilson both played for the Aces when they were a relevant program. They know what it takes to win, and they won't finish last in the MVC next season. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Which coaching staff is Ragland and Co. better than?

Would have to be quite a few for coaching to make a difference with that little talent.

Other teams have coaches with experience as well.

I'm not ragging on the hire - there isn't much they can do about this season.

UNI has signed a 2 for 1 with Northern Illinois

Nov 26 this year in Cedar Falls

Next year in DeKalb and 2024 in Cedar Falls.

UNI only has one left to get and I'll be pretty surprised if it's not a non-DI.

Educated guess that the two league games pre-Christmas are Nov 30 and Dec 3.

They already HAVE done something about this season. They have a full roster and a renewed commitment to improving the program. If your objective is to trample the conversation by dismissing the new coach as not any better than the old one or the players automatically not better than a pair of 5th-year bench warmers who got 34 minutes a game and a walkon who was the second sub off the bench -- well, what precisely would make be a more sensible argument?
This team isn't headed for the Sweet 68, 48, 32, 16 or maybe not even the Runnerup Bowl.
I suppose it's OK to tell us we're losers as fans for being optimists.
Got it.
Nobody accused any other team of having bad coaches or players. We all know how the drill works.

And it is a non-DI. UNI opens with Wartburg on 11/7.

I think UNI is done and it's a great schedule as usual but only two true road games which is really nice.

I’m talking about this season. That’s it. Not Coach Ragland’s tenure at Evansville or what he can accomplish. He took over a god awful program very late in the process. That probably means a last place finish again in 2022-23.

I’m not talking about any season other than the one upcoming. The Aces have a really bad roster. That’s not Ragland’s fault. I’m sure he’s very good but John Wooden wouldn’t get this team past 11th.

Well, "probably" is not zero either. I am less concerned about their finish than with the process. As an alum of the university, things like that tend to matter more than "11th place." But I applaud you for having this much insight on the new conference alignment.

Your assessment of the Aces roster is based on what?

I've got Evansville sharpied into first. Pretty amazing that they were able to hire this generation's Coach K and put together the Showtime Lakers in two weeks at the end of May.

They have one player on the roster who has ever averaged double figures at the Division Level and that was a guy who did it at Alabama State. Its also a roster with quite a few freshmen.

If someone can point to anything that shows Evansville has better players than the other 11 MVC teams I would love to see it.
