Murray is not the shiniest object in the box now in a conference that has more weapons. I am more interested in some of their other sports than I am the men's basketball. The Racers and Belmont will both be competitive, meaning they won't be doing any 4-win seasons. That means if they get a shot at winning, they have a shot at it. I think Belmont will struggle more as the landscape changes.
As far as either winning inside a time frame, it's likely over 5 years that 5 different programs could win the league title and any one of 6 or 7 could outlast the field in A.M.
Both Murray and Belmont upgrade the whole baseball schedule.

He replaces Darron Boatright who also came to the Shockers from Murray State.

No doubt. Not only will they now see several top 100 programs in home and homes in conference play but they will also get higher quality series agreements in non-conference play and fewer (maybe zero?) Non-D1s where before I believe they had a bunch every year. Just looking at Murray State I don't believe that Western Kentucky agreeing to revive their series around the time of Murray's MVC announcement was a coincidence.

Murray State's run has been nothing short of incredible. I have scarcely seen a program serve as a springboard for so many people to land jobs at schools in higher conferences. I for one also believe that Murray State has Wichita State kind of potential in men's basketball and maybe even in the department as a whole. The fact that WSU has poached not one but two ADs from there only speaks to that potential. Now it's up to them to realize it!

As of today I don’t believe that it will be this year when we make a run. I still us as being highly competitive, but we won’t have any team chemistry. Hoping by conference time we see exactly what we have. But then again every team is kinda in the same boat with the crazy transfer rules. We, along with Belmont, just got the shaft end of the deals.

Given our history against MVC teams I’d say realistically give us 2 to 3 years.

The reality for my Racers is that by moving into The Valley, I fully expect to lose more games, but that unto itself really doesn’t matter. A 30-2 team from the OVC vs a 26-6 MVC is a wash in my mind. That’s four more losses, but that doesn’t matter much. It’s all about quality wins, which will be more readily available in the MVC , and fewer bad losses which will be fewer and further between than the OVC.

Realistically, I think five years is the answer. Not to say I won’t expect the Racers to be competitive, but next season could be pretty brutal replacing 12 of 13 scholarship players, the entire coaching staff, plus an AD all while increasing competition across the board.

Boatright was worthless. When the incident came up that got Marshall fired, Boatright knew all about it and did nothing. That meant Marshall couldn't be fired for cause years later. That cost WSU 7.75 million to Marshall for doing nothing. Marshall's contract was ridiculously favorable to Marshall.

Boatright went to WSU's President and managed to save his job with a 37.5% salary increase. At one point there was a real chance to save Marshall's job and fire Boatright. That whole mess caused the major donors to stop contributing to the athletic department. The wrong guy lost his job.

Then when NIL came along, Boatright did nothing. That resulted in fans buying "Fire Boatright" billboards.

I dont know the details, but in cases like what you describe, pressure comes from other areas that would keep an AD from making the decision. this can include fans, but more likely includes alumni/donors, or the school president.

If it were solely Boatright, how the hell did he get a 37.5% salary increase? Do you mean a pay cut?

I also dont understand what your position is on this...

You talk about saving Marshall's job, but that what Marshall did was worthy of firing for cause but Boatright didn't do that. SO which is it? Does Boatright deserve to be fired for keeping Marshall, or fired for not firing him?

Aargh is ok with Marshall keeping his job after punching a player and wanted Boatright fired:

That's one heck of a way to say "When our head coach physically assaulted one of our student athletes.."

I'm really looking forward to the HOF Classic in KC this November.
