sycamorestateofmind wrote:During conference play Odum is 7th in the nation in steals - good grief you guys give a kid no credit. The only stats you want to focus on is rebounds and points. That's really all you have to make your case on.

You can't make it on:

His leadership compared to Odum.

His value to his team compared to Odum

His overall game compared to Odum

I'm not going to get into too deep of a discussion with you here because you seem to be too emotionally invested to make a fair decision, but I'll say that you certainly can compare Doug to Odum in any of the above categories quite favorably. He is one of the leaders of the team, his overall game is very sound (he scores, he rebounds both offensively and defensively) and he makes his teammates better. Without him, the Jays would have easily lost many more games this year, so I'd place his value pretty high.

McDermott is almost a lock for a first team all-conference performer as a freshman. He would be the first such person to receive such recognition since the 1950's. For him to get such an award, yet not get FOY seems to be quite a stretch.

He's an argument that you might want to consider: Of the three freshmen, which one would start for the highest number of schools in the conference?

However it turns out, I think it is great that we have three top tier freshmen. As someone who has been concerned about the long-term prospects of the conference, this is a nice positive.

When you play CU you game plan for Little Mac.
When you game plan for ISU, Odum is an afterthought.

As over-passionate as the ISU fans might be in stating their case for Odum (I think he's as legit as McDermott), that's just as ridiculous a statement the other way.

Not really. You don't game plan for the INSb PG, you game plan for INSb's 3 point shooters which is why Odum gets so many of his dimes...passes to the 3 point shooter who shoots a 3 pointer.

Tyler McKinney would have games in the day where he would have 10 assists and you would say WTF?! Then you realize that he got seven of them making a pass to Kyle Korver for a jump shot...hardly an assist. Odum has gotten a boat load of these semi-dimes.

Wookie Jr's stats are gaudy because he plays on a mediocre team. I wasn't too impressed with his skill-set or athleticism Wednesday night, but I will say he plays with a lot of confidence under daddy who seems to have given him the green light.

Wookie Sr's quote: "I was planning on redshirting him at the beginning of the year".

LOL! looks like you lost here sycamorestateofmind. If you find someone open for three it doesn't count as much so Jake should have his assists average cut in half or so. I'm sure the voters will keep this in mind. Not looking too good for Odum.

Now that is just plan funny....Stupid but funny. Glad you are not too impressed with him because you get to be "not impressed" with him for another three years. :buddies:

"Mediocre team" that should have beat you at home. Best of luck in the Lou! :D
