Thoughts on an MVC - MAC Challenge

Geography makes perfect sense, both have 12 schools, and both are top 15 leagues in MBB. It would give everyone an extra guaranteed game. I always enjoyed the MWC Challenge, but I'd be just as happy with this.

I don't think this is necessary even if it is a good idea in theory. The only reason I say this is because to the best that I have seen MVC teams have had no problem getting MAC teams on the schedule for home and homes regularly. We should try to engage another conference but then again we may only have a shot with a conference with which the MVC already has a strong relationship so this might actually become a reality anyway. I still don't understand why or how we haven't been able to do a tripartite challenge with the MWC and the A-10. Obviously both consider the MVC an inferior league but I still do not understand how given the MVC's track record in March, I think we should hold off on any challenge arrangements until this wave of realignment settles down and we have a better idea of the strength of the conferences and where we fit in that pecking order.

Challenges are great. Gets schools decent games, but proper pairing is the key.

Bradley supposedly just signed a game with Akron, a home and home series starting in Peoria this year.

Bradley has played against Toledo and Miami (OH) recently as well. Valley teams can get these match-ups pretty easy if they want them, and you can probably pick your opponent for a better game then trusting the conference office to give you a good match-up for a whole challenge.

Maybe in football. The MVFC would kick the MACs ass

The MAC is pretty bad. They've got Akron, Toledo, Kent St, Ohio and Buffalo who have all been pretty consistently good, but if you don't get one of those 5 teams in a challenge, you're getting a team that hasn't done much.

I like the idea. Don't think MVC schools can be too selective when scheduling non conference games. The MAC isn't the ACC, but it's still a pretty solid conference.
Would like to see the new commissioner assist each Valley school in securing one P5 each year. Coming from the BIG 12, he may have some insight on getting this accomplished. However, he is on the other side now. :D

No thanks. The bottom of that league is a disaster and we already schedule the good teams.

There comes a point where schools have to take some pride in their schedules and act accordingly. There are plenty of good games out there if you go out and find them.

Right. 8 out of their 13 members were ranked 266 or worse last year. In other words in the bottom 92 out of 358 teams. Unless you're playing a solid top 2-3 team in the MAC, you're scheduling irresponsibly.
