Peters got hurt late in Valpo's final year in the Horizon. Valpo missed the tournament and bowed out in the first round of the NIT. The roster was turned over to Lottich Valpo joined the MVC and not much has gone right since. Tonagel still has a fair number of supporters on our message board but at this point we're just desperate for anyone who can take the program back to respectability because what we have now is utterly embarrassing.

Tonagel is not going to let any so-called hard feelings from taking a job, especially at his alma mater if it is a step up, and it certainly is.

In 2018, David Ragland was a finalist for the UE job, and according to many, blew away the others during the interviews, and was the choice of nearly everyone on the search committee. Our AD at the time went against them for a splash hire with McCarty. Now consider the fact when McCarty got canned, AD Spencer had too much pride and didn't even contact Ragland, instead going straight to Sleepy Todd. Now, despite those two snubs, Ragland obviously still took the job. Tonagel has done a great job at Wesleyan, and I would be curious to see how he does at this level.

Ragland is going to be an amazing coach at UE.I think he will make that program better than it has been in a long time. He did a great job for VU as an assistant and many fans knew it was only a matter of time before he got a head coaching job. I hope you're right on Tonagel. Something tells me he'd do well if hired even if D1 is a huge step up from NAIA. Another possible name (and alum) who would be an interesting hire and might be interested is Jake Diebler. He was a tough hard nosed fan favorite who played gritty defense and would likely make that the identity of the program. He would have plenty of supporters if he were to come aboard for sure but something tells me he's angling for a better job than Valpo and I don't blame him.

Also, wasn’t DeVries turned down twice by Sandy Hatfield Clubb at Drake?

Is Roger Powell Jr too big for the job right now? He had his name rumored for the Illinois State job. He probably could get a high major job now if he wanted though.

I don't think Roger Powell would get a high major job.

I'm also not a Greg Donagel fan. Winning at IWU is easier than winning at Valpo.

At least twice. I think he might have also applied in 2008 (Phelps). He really wanted the Drake job specifically, because all of his family are in Iowa, many of them in central Iowa.

Another coach who wanted the Drake job more than once was Nick Nurse, who won an NBA title with Toronto. I don't think he even got an interview.

I think by the time Medved was hired, Sandy was no longer the one making the decision, even though she was still the AD. I'm pretty sure the president of the school, Marty Martin, made that choice. It was a good hire, but who could've predicted he'd bolt after just one season.

Not sure any AD in the history of the NCAA has ever made worse back-to-back hires.

The big thing that changed at Drake, in addition to the AD, was the university president. During Sandy's time, the president was not a sports fan and had no clue about D1 sports. His replacement did his undergrad and law school at Kentucky, and was at Gonzaga for about 10 years prior to coming to Drake, and was a big sports fan who understood what a successful program could do for the school.

You need to look at the history of Indiana Wesleyan Basketball beyond just what you see now. They weren’t bad, they were terrible. I think they won more conference games than ever before in his first year, if I remember correctly. They play in the toughest NAIA conference and are dominant. As a player he took his HS team to the last single class basketball state championship in Indiana and was a part of 4 NCAA Tournament teams at Valpo. All he does is win.

Cripes, MSU loses again. Outside of Indiana State and Drake the conference is looking pretty rough. Maybe Southern and UIC still get some grace. Maybe

Bradley hammered Merrimack 83-41 today. Malevy Leons had 32 points and 10 rebounds and missed one shot all day.

The bigger news was the return of Reink Mast. He got the rust off with 12 and 6 in 17 minutes of action. Yes, Merrimack stinks but the team looks vastly different with Mast on the floor.

UE wins 54-53 over Robert Morris. They were down by 12 at the half but held RM to 16 pts in the 2nd half.
