Big news in Springfield today , the City of Springfield is purchasing Hammon's Field and two adjoining parking lots for 12 million and agree to put 4 million into improvements . Hammon's Field the home for both the St Louis Cardinals Double A team, and the Missouri State Bears will remain so, with the Cardinals agreeing to keep the Double A team here thru 2038 if the improvements are agreed upon, and the Bears will continue to play there and have club house space at $250,000 a year which includes also the use of the indoor hitting and practice facilities attached to HF. The property which has been tied up in court after the death of JQH now becomes the sole property of the City to administer and maintain. Probably as important to fans was the inclusion of the two parking areas which had been under the control of a separate company and who had been gouging fans of both teams with ridiculous parking prices the last few years. It actually cost more to park than game tickets were . Anyway big news in keeping the Cards, solidifying the home field for the Bears , and the City adding a valuable property.
