Thanks. Last I saw a couple days ago was a tweet that it was just over 20%.

And, if 33% transfer every year, that would mean you'd only keep about 30% of players for 4 seasons.

During this era, I think it's foolish to try to build with freshmen. Drake has two freshman commits right now, and a minimum of 6 scholarship still open. I really hope that all 6 go to guys in the portal or juco players.

Again. San Diego State and Florida Atlantic just played in the Final Four.

Let's stop with the crying and excuses.

Hopefully the AI or Machine learning platform is being told that Mid Majors did better than it expected in the Tourney.

I think that a big factor in this is the 6th year that's been offered to COVID year kids. For the next couple years, I predict MidMajor teams will have a relative advantage. Especially teams that have systems that require teamwork and maturity within the system will have an advantage while these kids spend an extra year. But that's gone in a couple years.

Even with that, the valley lost almost all it's All-conference players. I don't think that

A reason the portal is so crowded this year is these COVID players have been at school for four years and trying to get a 5th somewhere else right now. I still think we need 2-3 years with the portal and without these COVID players clogging up so many scholarships. It will take a few more years to see just how many players will jump to the portal once we get past all these people getting the COVID deals.

Another factor to watch is if the NCAA does indeed limit waivers on second time transfers, that will start to have an effect on the numbers entering as well, as right now there are a lot of 2nd time guys in the portal. If the majority end up sitting this year, that'll resonate next year.

The one-transfer rule is fine I suppose. Having as many as you want isn't a good look.

One opinion/idea was that if a bigger school takes a low/mid-major player and pays him $200,000 to come to play, then they should pay the school he is leaving the same amount or even half.

It got me thinking about buyouts embedded into contracts for a coach. There is usually a buyout clause that if he leaves, either the coach or the new school must pay a certain amount of money. There were rumblings last night about the Western Illinois coach didn't want to pay the buyout of his contract and wanting Southern Utah to pay it. Eventually, someone paid and he accepted the job.

NCAA scholarships are a one-year contract. How can schools, have the player sign a contract that essentially says if you leave to go to another school and get paid (based on the development and body of work you did for our university) you must pay a % of that money to the school you left. That money can then be redistributed to current or new players.

Again, this is kind of already happening. Some NIL contracts have exclusivity provisions that state the player cannot sign any other NIL deals. There are transfers that are asking for releases from NIL deals much like they would an LOI. My guess is that the releasing NIL isn't doing it for free.

Agreed. So since we are transitioning into the minor leagues of the Power 6, we need to get creative on how we can get "compensated" when a player is "called up."

Has the MVC ever been equal with the P6? How has the portal and NIL changed the power structure at all?

The NCAA is still going to allow 2 time and hell, three time (GA at the time of third transfer). I've read where the NCAA is going to be "tougher" about giving out waivers for a second time transfer (that's not a GA). However, kids will continue to abuse the system and claim they need to transfer for their "mental health," and will be granted immediate eligibility. NCAA won't be able to decline those requests.

The waters should get a little less murky (though, still clear as mud) after the '24-'25 season when all COVID eligibility expires.
