bellarmine and nku are 3rd or 4th options from their cities. a lot or people dosent mean s***. they certainly wouldnt bring in more than sdsu or ndsu. at least they are recognizable and in the case of ndsu a top marketable brand. people know who they are by way of football. whats bellarmine known for? one lucky win last november that 99% have forgot about? nku does have the best basketball program but they dont even want in. texas arlington is bad and even moreso on an island. umkc doesnt have the facilities although they may be one to watch in the future with their dedication to building a new basketball facility. milwaukee is bad and marquette and wisconsin rule the roost. nobody is a perfect candidate right now so its best to sit on it BUT sdsu and ndsu are clearly better candidates than most realistic ones.

Nobody wants to travel to FARGO. Thats an awful drive or an expensive flight for most everyone. Fans won't want it and schools definitely don't want that added travel expense. We already added a hefty travel increase program in Murray (not complaining, it was a no brainer). We're not adding the Dakotas. This argument is stupid.

We are in the age of inflation, declining enrollment, and declining funding. There are two upcoming enrollment cliffs that will dwarf the last enrollment cliff. Any expansion decision by university presidents is going to be in an area they can recruit more tuition-paying students. The only exception is if a program has a pedigree/fan base combination that far outweighs its recruiting area (Murray was that exception).

University presidents make the decision and they are not going to add more schools in a non-recruiting area unless the program is a no-brainer and in the footprint (Murray St). The Dakotas are great schools and XDSU's are solid programs, but they're not getting considered under the university presidents' criteria. It's a wasted exercise to pretend otherwise.

You can watch this video on WIU/OVC. Covers enrollment cliffs, loss of funding, loss of state HS students, etc. WIU didn't have a student from the Dakotas on their main campus - that's what presidents care about.

There are so many people in the eastern part of this league that have no earthly idea how far away they are. UNI flies to both XDSUs for football and we're the closest one to them. Fargo is closer to Winnipeg than it is to Minneapolis.

No president in this league is going to sign up to add all this travel expense to go into an area where they can't recruit regular students. The vast majority or our schools are already losing enrollment and it's going to get worse with the 2025-2028 cliff and then the massive cliff coming in the mid-2030s.

And the careers of the university presidents themselves. They have to answer to the board what is going on with their enrollment and what they're tangibly doing to stop the bleeding. If their enrollments are freefalling and they're adding expenses with faraway schools in areas they don't recruit students from to bring in tuition revenue, the board will replace them and that's the end of their presidential careers.

If you're a university president at the apex of your career, you don't give your board ammo to fire you.

At this point, I don't think we're making any proactive additions for awhile. Everyone is waiting to see what happens with the Pac-12(10) media deal and what that means for potential departures of the 4-corner schools. There's lots of smoke that Colorado may be heading back to the Big 12 which would be the first domino to fall in realignment.
If they leave do others follow? Does the Pac-12 eventually fold? Eventually the trickle down effect would reach the MVC and we'll have to re-evaluate where we stand in the scheme of college athletics.

There's nobody worthwhile we can add anyway. I wanted them to be proactive and add Belmont, who said no multiple times, and Murray State and they were added, but only when we lost a team.

It sounds like The Pac 12 and Big 12 may be close in number which is good. Any of the major conferences folding is bad for us.

Not sure if it is official today but it seems like FBS has changed the entry fee to $5 million. I’m sure this can be done if they wish, but the possible move for Missouri State just became a lot more expensive.
