I don't think we should add anyone unless they have a fairly strong fan base that will actually support them. I'll literally never understand this board. Everyone gets all excited when Arch Madness is full of fans, but yet everyone wants to add schools that literally no one cares about. Like I just looked up St Thomas and they averaged 1200 fans per game last season. I think they're building a new arena, but they can't even sell out the current one with 1800 capacity which is smaller than a lot of highschool gyms here in Indiana. A school like that literally does nothing for me and I don't care what their so called market is.

I have read where others have posted similar sentiments as this without any actual examples of ORU's contrasting values. Could you provide views, beliefs, etc that makes them not a good fit/choice for the Valley?

Their extreme stance and treatment of anyone gay.

Beyond that, their enrollment is barely 4,000, their academics aren't good, and they just lost their most successful coach and player.

Also students aren't allowed to curse or wear shorts (they are punished by RAs, professors, and other University administration for doing so) and are encouraged to evangelize people of other faiths around their campus (see the incident where a student group sponsored a walkin to a mosque to protest Islam, and the university did nothing to address it).

Miss me with ORU. We can disagree on political issues and I don't think we should have political banter here, but I'm against adding a university who encourages trampling on others' first amendment rights.

That was the rub on Loyola, but now they have a solid base, and one that travels well, too.

Exactly. Adding Oral Roberts feels like a Devil's bargain in some ways. They are such a good fit athletically but such an awful fit institutionally. I really want the MVC to survive as a multibid league and they might be one of the best ways to help the league do it but is it really worth it considering who they are institutionally? I really struggle with this question myself for a whole host of reasons.

Yes. BYU once kicked a player off the basketball team for having sex with a student. Is there anyone here that wouldn’t love a program like that in our conference? If our conference is focused on anything but basketball, what are we even doing here? Bigger conferences aren’t wasting time worrying about that stuff. It’s about money.

I don’t know if Oral Roberts is a perfect fit for the conference. I’m just saying this is a basketball league. Everything else is noise.

We're going to agree to disagree here. I don't want BYU or Oral Roberts in my conference. I don't want to share revenue with them and I don't want their leadership making decisions that impact my chosen school. Sorry.

I agree.

And the Big Ten has not added a school that isn't AAU. Nebraska only lost theirs after joining. And the Pac-12 rejected the idea of certain schools joined due to not meeting academic standards.
