MVC Baseball '24 is here!

The Valley is hot out of the gate as the 2024 season begins. After 2 games by most teams, the MVC is 14-4 with an RPI rank of 6.

My Flames have opened up by winning their series against Power member Kansas Jayhawks of the Big 12.

Very happy with the UIC start.
Kansas was pegged to finish 8th in the Big 12 with a nice transfer class.
The first two games have been one sided in UIC’s favor.
Really want that sweep tomorrow.

Kansas got the last one, but I'mma keep an eye out. Incarnate Word is up next. The Cardinals just swept Villanova and have a game against #8 Texas A&M on Tuesday.

Bears off to a 3-1 start , taking the Louisiana Monroe series 2-1, then beating Oral Roberts in Tulsa Tuesday. Tough 3 game stint at Southern Mississippi this weekend. Have to see how revamped pitching staff melds together, but this Bears team can hit the ball.

Watching the Aces when I can. They have 2 nice frosh lefties -- Deverman, long relief, and Reed, the Sunday starter. Both show signs of being pretty good.

Adding Cal McGinnis at 2B (Bradley transfer) will add to the offense. Only one regular is gone from the 2023 team -- Eric Roberts.

The season has about 3 series left after Sunday. UIC is 2 games behind first place Indiana State and 1 behind Evansville. Top four seeds get a bye. Right now, UIC is one of the "Last Four In" for the NCAA baseball tourney according to On3 sports. The have won 5 in a row and have a 27-12 record. Simply put, the team just has to keep winning. At the very least they need to win series (2 of 3). It would be nice if the Valley got multiple teams in.

I think the top 3 are safe, but that 4th spot for the bye is wide open with Murray, SIU, Illinois St and Belmont all tied at 9-9 in the conference.

In a way, Indiana State, UE and UIC can control their destiny for the championship. INSU is in the drivers seat. With 3 series left, they get Belmont and Valpo to finish after 3 with UE. UE has to finish with 3 against INSU and then 3 with UIC. After 3 with Bradley, UIC gets to deal with ILSU before their final 3 at UE.

With the conference tournament starting 3 days after the final game, do you know if UIC is staying here or going back? I would think to keep them rested I would stay in town those days.

Should be an exciting last 3 weeks.
