Clark Kellog was talking up the Trees at large chances at halftime when they were getting smoked. They make an amazing comeback and he says unfortunately they will likely be left out. He got the memo not to promote a MM.

I do think it's worth it to point out what Lunardi did with Drake over the course of 24 hours. Just before tip-off of the Arch Madness final he had Drake as the fourth "Next Four Out" category and even wrote that he thought Drake would NOT be in the tournament if they lost to Indiana State. ( https://x.com/ESPNLunardi/status/176688 ... 91660?s=20 )

The next morning, after the tournament win, he had Drake as a 10 seed. It's not a perfect comparison because Drake is in as an auto bid, but Lunardi is effectively saying that Drake jumped 12 spots (3 whole seed lines!) for a neutral court win over Indiana State. That's kind of nuts.

I personally think it's an anecdote that highlights how disingenuous these folks can be. On Sunday morning Drake wasn't good enough. When you are forced to accept that you have to put them in the bracket, it seems like for the first time Lunardi is asking, "wait, how good are these guys?". That's bad.

108 of 114 brackets on BracketMatrix have been updated since Sunday.

Indiana State is in 73 of 108 (67.6%) of those brackets.

Remember, FAU/Dayton occupy at-large spots in those brackets. If they win autobids on Sunday, 2 more bubble slots open up.

I do completely agree that the talking heads are disingenuous because they are pushing a narrative. However, Drake winning the AQ for the MVC and being predicted to get a 10 seed just shows what the MVC is worth. We are probably 10-13 depending on the year excluding outliers. Just like how you'll never see a Big Ten team get a 15 seed or a SWAC team get a 3 seed.

But that's just it. Lunardi could easily slot Drake in as an 11-12 seed and it would fully align with what he was saying pre-MVC title match. The point is that ESPN doesn't fairly evaluate Drake until faced with the reality that one of their precious SEC-Big12 teams that went .500 in conference are going to have play Drake. Then, and only then, do they worry about properly evaluating the Bulldogs. There is basically no concern with fair evaluation while Drake (or Indiana State) is on the bubble.

I do wonder how accurate he has been at predicting seeding for low, mid, and high major teams.
