Scholarships to increase in 2025

FBS football goes from 85 to 105.
MBB goes from 13 to 15.
WBB stays at 15.
Other sports have various changes.

Overall, current FBS athletic departments are estimated to increase by 90 scholarships when you factor in the increase in scholarships for football, other sports, and Title IX implications.

This just makes the rich richer. Why does football need 105 scholarships? With 40 more available scholarships between football and baseball, it looks like more girls sports will need to be added at most institutions.

Giving mid and low-majors a better shot at garnering better recruits was a reason the NCAA reduced the number of schollies years ago.

The NCAA is run by the member institutions. It’s not an organization that just randomly makes decisions on its own. Thats not how it works.

It's cute that you think the power leagues give a s*** about competitiveness.

Also, the minute they got so behind that that courts got involved, this was going to be the outcome.

Yes, it’s the member institutions. And in the past, the MMs had clout due to voting numbers.
But the modern threat of Power schools leaving and forming a rival to the NCAA has changed things.

Exactly.

We can all rail on it and hate it all we want - but the Power schools make the money - so they want more say in how things are done. The Valley type schools CAN go off on their own or go D2 if it bothers them that much - but clearly that isn't something they are going to do.

You can sit at the table with the P5 for now - but you don't get a say about what's on the menu. Want a say? Make more money.
