I think Northern Kentucky adds value. They've earned a few duckets for the Horizon League by winning the tournament title 4 of the last 7 years and going to the Dance 3 times (the other canceled by Covid).

Do they add an annual second bid from THIS league? No, no they do not. There is no value add there.

I think Northern Kentucky is a great team in a great market, but Valpo was also a great team in a great market in their tenure with the HL and had better statistics than Northern Kentucky as well and look what that got em. The director is being cautious. Which is the correct path at this venture. Schools don't see the MVC as a step up anymore, but rather the A10 has stolen that role. Schools need to be added that will better not just the market share, but the talent pool as well. BC is correct. Unless we can get a team that can get the MVC another tourney bid, its not worth it at this time. The only thing that will change this is if March Madness is expanded upon.

And you know this because...? You don't think NKU's recruiting will pick up if elevated to a higher Conference? What team is there now in this league that adds an annual second bid from THIS league?!

That's exactly my point. We aren't getting a second bid any time soon (barring tournament expansion that doesn't just hand bids to the P5, so why on earth add another mouth just to add another mouth.

From a president's/enrollment perspective, Cincinnati probably isn't big enough to satisfy enrollment needs either.

They may very well be the choice if we go to 12 but I think there's a much stronger case to be made for staying at 11.

Bullshit.

We could make a call with an invitation to any member of any league that doesn't play FCS football or the A10 and they would be screaming 'YES' before we finished the question or discussed any terms.

We're in the driver's seat here not any potential add.

Not true at all whatsoever. A10 has higher RPI since Loyola left. And their final year was a .502 vs a .500 RPI ranking. Even then they have had higher average NETS for years now. The MVC has been relegated to a stepping stone

You're misreading BCPanther's post. He said the opposite of what you're thinking he said.

And what BCPanther said is mostly correct: just about any school in our footprint (or UTA) not in FBS/BE/A-10 sees the MVC as a step up and will join if offered. This was the 9th ranked conference last year - and that's with your school's 302 NET.

The list of schools who turned down a better conference in their own footprint is extremely short. That fact alone represents decades of evidence with a large sample of schools -- schools don't turn down opportunities for better conferences in their own footprint except for a few exceptional cases.

If the MVC doesn't expand, it's because the MVC doesn't see value in expanding.

As for being a steppingstone, every league that isn't the B1G, SEC, Ivy, and Big East is a steppingstone. The MVC wasn't "relegated" to a steppingstone -- it's been a steppingstone for 100 years. The only leagues that have been "relegated" to a steppingstone recently are the XII, ACC, & Pac-12.

Does any of this really matter? We are all going to be some variation of Division II in 10 years when the three mega conferences push us away.

This makes me sad but I think you're right. With the NCAA loosing control, they'll make a deal with the mega conference so that they are the only "D1 conferences"

Well, on the bright side, we'll be at the top of "D2 conferences". :buddies:
