It’s fine but it’s not a schedule to get you an at large bid.

It doesn't matter, we saw last year that the MVC isn't an at-large conference anymore. Schedule teams you know you can get some early season wins off of and focus on winning Arch Madness because that's all that matters.

The loss at home to Illinois State kept Indiana State out, not their schedule.

It's also been said a kajillion times (KenPom, Torvik, etc) that last year had the strongest bubble in almost 20 years and simultaneously set a record for the most bid thieves. Without either of those, Indiana St was in. Heck, the committee chair himself said Indiana St was one of the teams the committee agreed to put in the tournament entering Saturday before the bid steal madness which forced them to scrub 3 teams they previously agreed on (35 of 36 were selected at that point).

Oh, and the committee chair said the reason Indiana St was picked as one of the 3 teams to scrub was because at that point they were forced to "split hairs" and he specifically pointed out all of Indiana St's non-conference wins came against Q3/Q4 teams. In effect, all 5 of Indiana St's Q1/Q2 wins came from their MVC schedule, 0 of their Q1/Q2 wins came from the non-conference schedule.

If it wasn't for the MVC, Indiana St wouldn't have sniffed the at-large conversation as they'd have 0 Q1/Q2 wins (no one's ever gotten in with 0 Q1/Q2 wins or 0 Top-50/100 wins before quadrants) and no room to boost their metrics without those 3 Top-60 wins over Bradley and Drake. The MVC (Bradley, Drake) is the reason Indiana St nearly got in -- as Indiana St's resume was entirely built off conference wins, especially big wins over those two.

The committee literally slotted Drake above at-large teams.

The difference?
- Drake had a 20-point OOC Q1 win over an NCAA at-large team. Indiana St had 0 OOC Q1/Q2 wins.
- Drake won 4 Q1 games. Indiana St won 1 Q1 game.
- Drake had 0 Q4 losses. Indiana St had 1 Q4 home loss.

Q1 wins are the golden goose for the committee. The committee slotted Drake, even with a 47 NET and 2 Q3 losses in a mid-major conference, above at-large teams because of it.

Also, just 2 years ago, Murray St was a 7-seed, slotted above 21 at-large teams despite playing in the 21st NET Conference. The committee demonstrably agreed a team in the 21st conference was at-large caliber. The difference? Again, Murray had an OOC Q1 road win at Memphis (31 NET). Believe it or not, that Murray team actually had a worse NET (29) than Indiana St (28).

It is also worth pointing out that the MVC slotted 3rd best among all mid major conferences. Second best if you consider the MW to be a power conference. Granted this was under the RPI system. If we go off of the NET system, the MVC placed 4th best, or third best depending on how you view the MW. MVC slotted in behind the (MW), the A10, and the American. All know good basketball conferences.
