CU didn't shoot free throws because they settled for outside shots. In the last 11 minutes where CU went stone cold, well over half the shots taken were three pointers (8 in the last ten minutes - way too many for a team that shoots them at about a 30% clip). When CU got the ball inside, we got to the line several times, but we went away from working to get the ball inside and settled for jump shots. On the other hand, MSU (as so many teams have done in the past few seasons to CU) drove the ball at the hoop leading to numerous easy buckets and fouls. There wasn't anything about the referring other than one team forcing the issue and the other team not.
The game was a microcosm of the season. Usually a slow start, pick it up and compete well through the middle of the game, play relatively solid defense through the first half, and then fail to match when the opposing team turns up the intensity the last 10 minutes. On to next year! Here's hoping they fire about a 1,000 passes a day at Echinique (high, low and inbetween) until he can catch them cleanly every time.
