Complete Non Con
Oct 26: EX: Lewis
Nov 4: UT Martin
Nov 7: @NDSU
Nov 12: Ohio U
Nov 17: Trinity Christian
Nov 22: vs McNeese
Nov 23: vs Longwood/UAB
Nov 24: vs Louisana/Liberty/K-State/GW
Dec 7: Pacific
Dec 15: SLU
Dec 18: Northern Illinois

Lots of opportunities for Redbird Wins. Bummed they aren't getting bought, but oh well. It's a fine scheduled with a possibly ranked opponent coming to Redbird on Dec 15.

SIU's non-conference schedule was released yesterday: the only real new info was a home game against High Point, which is expected to be preseason favorites in the Big South. It's the start of a three-year deal, two games in Carbondale and one at High Point.

The slate:

Oct. 29 - vs.North Park (exhibition)
Nov. 4 - vs. Charleston at Field of 68 Showcase in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Nov. 8 - vs. Missouri S&T
Nov. 14 - at Oklahoma State
Nov. 18 - vs. North Dakota State
Nov. 22 - at Florida
Nov. 25-27 - at Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla. (field still not announced but Richmond, La Tech, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky reportedly among participants)
Dec. 7 - vs. Southern Indiana
Dec. 14 - at Austin Peay
Dec. 21 - vs. High Point

All in all, a pretty decent schedule, though I think both of the power conference games will be very challenging (Oklahoma St. will very much not want to be swept all three years of this deal, and Florida is supposed to be very good this year). SIU also will host an early MVC game on Dec. 3.

2024 NETs are. Liberty 141, Cleveland St 196, Lindenwood 354, Eastern Illinois. 311, Northern Illinois 298, DePaul 320, Central Michigan 265, Ohio St 49, Western Michigan 292, Plus 2 non D 1s. So Ouch! It is bad, but remember that Valpo finished last season at 302.

As a Valpo fan expecting big improvements I'll say that more than 4 losses might be a disaster. At the other extreme limiting non con losses to 2 might indicate that they can compete well in the 24-25 MVC action.

This is a bad schedule, but not for the reasons you think. Valpo should be loading up on the bottom end of DI because those are the schools they can beat. Valpo isn't anywhere near a tournament-caliber team, so its nonconference should be filled with winnable games.

Walking into the MVC at 4-5 against DI opponents doesn't help anyone.

Jeff Bidwell had a great podcast the other day about the Racers' scheduling woes.

The low-major teams have been gobbled up by the highest bidders from the Power 4/5 conferences, which limits significantly the pool of available buy games.

The Racers still need a home buy game and a 1 for 1 that begins in Murray.

Winning games by 40 is the best way to build up a NET as a conference. The easiest way to do that is buying games against low D1s. If the entire conference did this, we would be providing Q1 opportunities for each other.
