MWC has confirmed they only want NIU and Toledo as football only members. I'd assume this is because they are simply too far away for their other sports on a mid major travel budget. Football can afford all that travel, A sport such as soccer, could not.

Toledo’s basketball program is a good add and frankly an upgrade over the Bears. NIU’s is not. If it’s a package deal I’d lean no.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I'm not an old man, hell I'll still be on the right side of 40 in the year 2030. I can remember a time when Toledo did not have a good basketball team. They have had a really good run the past decade and I have a lot of respect for their basketball progra, I don't want to get that twisted, but we shouldn't add a team in Toledo Ohio so they can go play football games in San Jose and Hawaii simply because they've been hot the last 10 years. I don't hate the idea outright but I believe this could be a long term disaster, and you know their commitment will always be to Mountain West football.

1000% yes even if it means having to take NIU.

They've been very good for a long time under several coaches and have won 7 of the last 11 MAC regular season titles. Every additional Top 100 program we can add helps.

13 isn't any more clunky than 11.

Keep NIU away from our conference. We don't need another bottom feeder.

The MVC's average NET last year was 148.18 with an OOC record of 73-48 .6033.

NIU's NET was 298 and were 4-7 .3636. OOC last year and Toledo was 130 and were 6-8 .4286 OOC. They average a NET of 214 and 10-15 .4000 OOC.

MVC's NET with NIU and Toledo last year 158.31 an increase of 10.13. MVCs OOC with NIU and Toledo last year 83-63 .5685 a decrease of .0348.

Adding both hurts more than it would help and Toledo isn't even a top 100 program.

Why wouldn't the A10 also want Toledo. Toledo would take the A10 over the MVC.

Toledo's 10 year KenPom average is 89th. They are absolutely a consistent Top 100 program and I can't imagine any opposition to them from anybody.

Ideally, you only have to take Toledo and have a nice, tidy 12. I would think the Horizon would be all over NIU to get back into 'Chicago' since they lost UIC.

I don't believe they'd be an A10 target because the A10 tends to only look at you if you've had flashy tournament success and Toledo has has just flat rotten luck in the MAC tournament.

A10 is already at 14 and basically never adds anyone unless they’re coming off a March Madness run.

Loyola - Final Four
George Mason - Final Four
Davidson - Elite Eight
VCU - Final Four
Butler - Final Four

You have to go back to Saint Louis 20 years ago for the last time that wasn’t the case. But Saint Louis has a Big East budget, so that’s a unique exception.

Adding both certainly does not hurt more than it helps. Even if NIU is crummy at basketball, they are a recognizable brand. You add 2 recognizable brands in this deal, one of them being an avg top 100 team. Its a good move.

I'd agree that a 5 or 10 year average is better than a single year. So Toledo is a top 100 program.

NIU is a recognizable brand only for football and that's why they are being mentioned with the MWC. They are a dumpster fire of a basketball program. NIU adds nothing of value and adding them only hurts the MVC. Their attendance last season was 10,822 with an average of 902.
