NIU is a prime example of starving the basketball to prop up the football. If you look at their usual noncon basketball schedule it’s all buy games on the road and a couple of NAIA home games.

A10 is already at 14 and basically never adds anyone unless they’re coming off a March Madness run.

Loyola - Final Four
George Mason - Final Four
Davidson - Elite Eight
VCU - Final Four
Butler - Final Four

You have to go back to Saint Louis 20 years ago for the last time that wasn’t the case. But Saint Louis has a Big East budget, so that’s a unique exception.

To piggyback...
St. Louis also is a Jesuit school, which also worked in its favor to join the A10. The share a similar profile to many A10 schools (private, religious - same as 8 other current members).

The A10 also has 11 private school members out of their 14 members after UMass leaves.

The A10 doesn't need Toledo and Toledo doesn't have the right profile, but things are weird and I won't be shocked if they kicked the tires.

I can't find a way to flip my no vote to yes but I've now come around to Toledo. After a long work day that was also slow I thought about this a lot, Toledo would actually be an excellent add.

I don't think Toledo would be here long term, this would likely be a step towards the AAC for them. We have three schools (ust, nku, Uta) who show potential but we need to see more from those 3 and in perhaps 6 years one will "prove" itself, but in the meantime we can get back to an even number with an extremely solid Toledo program. It just is a perfect "in the meantime" add for all parties. Having said that if we have to add niu with them as a package, it's still a hard no.

The UTA Ship sailed when Missouri State left. St Thomas I believe is contractually tied to the Summit until 2027 and NKU is viable but if Toledo is on the table you take them first no question. Could even add a very nice pod on the western edge of Ohio\Northern Kentucky if Wright State has the finances to make the move. Scoring Toledo NKU and Wright State would be terrific for the league and Ohio is a good state for student recruiting for MVC Institutions as a pretty high exporter of students. (Illinois is too which is a bit of a feather in NIU's cap but we already have such a strong presence in Illinois they are not needed and the juice is likely not worth the squeeze there. One nice benefit could be that our FCS Teams could pick up some nice guarantee game checks if we invite both Toledo and NIU for some pretty short bus trips in exchange for helping out the MAC Defectors Olympic Sports.

Along with some others, I too am against adding NIU. The Valley has enough Illinois schools. Besides, NIU will just weigh down the league. Valpo and UIC have done enough of that.

Where are they moving then? If they go to the MWC there's no way the MAC is letting them stay in everything else. The Horizon is a lateral move at best and they fit The Valley in about every way.

Agreed. Plus this enforces the coming trend of Football being independent of the other sports

When you make a poll you have to select the option to revote otherwise you can only vote once.

I think the MWC is going to take 2 of Texas State, NMSU, and UTEP so it wont even matter.

I say that because I would be totally shocked if they ended up in the Mountain West for football only.
