You have to really love this place to want to coach here. He had a nice job at Gonzaga, yet he decided to come back and try to rebuild this program. This team has a lot of pieces, and is slowly fitting them all together. Drake was a really tough opponent with a solid resume, and VU took them to the brink.
This team is a sleeping giant.

Valpo's facilities are trash, they lag behind in NIL compared to the rest of the MVC. I like Powell but they're far from a "sleeping giant". No high school kid being recruited even knows who Bryce Drew is.

Cannot dispute facilities and NIL have Valpo behind the 8 ball. Sleeping giant is a little grandiose-but I think the valley will realize that this team isnt a going to be an easy out. Wont be the get healthy feel good easy win some have become accustomed to. Powell has charisma and can recruit- is that enough to overcome structural challenges currently present at Valpo? We will see. Meanwhile this season better lace em up nice and tight. Stirtz had to go nuts late to pull it out for Drake thursday and not everybody has a Stirtz.

Drake knocked out Miami, FAU, & Vanderbilt by double digits. Valpo took Drake to the edge.

That’s without a point from Stafford or Schweiger. Clearly, Powell can develop players. Valpo looks much improved from the opener against Liberty a month ago.

At Valpo… they had a nice game but it’s common for teams to play closer games than they should against good teams at their home court (ignore the s*** show in Carbondale on Tuesday). If Valpo took Drake to OT at Drake, there may be more of an argument. But this moral victory lap that some Valpo fans are taking from a home loss is a bit ridiculous.

That would be true for a team that has a "home court advantage". Valpo does not. The crowd is uninterested in the basketball being played for the most part. The fact of the matter is that this Drake team has a solid resume, and Drake needed a stellar performance from one of their top guys in order to win. That does mean something.

It still matters being a familiar setting. Home teams still won the majority of games during the COVID ERA. Even if you play in a middle school gym with 300 people watching, it’s still a familiar setting to one team.

Banterra center might be feeling pretty familiar to everybody this year. Nice Saluki win against a game S. Indiana team.

Belmont wins a high quality game over Middle Tennessee.

Middle Tennessee is 7-3 with 3 losses to the MVC: Bradley, Belmont, & Murray.

UNI leads NIU by 7 touchdowns. They’re up 49.
